Desktop monitor won't come on

I have an HP desktop computer. The power button on the monitor stopped working. I bought a used Dell monitor. After connecting the monitor to the computer, the monitor doesn't come on. The power button appears to be working, but nothing appears on the screen. Help!

Are you even sure it works? Try connecting it to something else or even connecting it to nothing. If neither works, it's probably a broken monitor and you need to return for a refund and buy a new one directly from dell (only ~$150 for a 22")
