I'm not really sure which board to post this on, but I'm having a puzzling issue. I have a Compaq Presario desktop that has been restarting at random times. After several days of doing this, it got to the point where it was stuck in a loop at the main screen trying to do a system repair. I was unable to even get it to boot off my Windows 7 disk. Had the machine in to a local repair shop, where they had it for several days and were able to get it working again, but were unable to determine a cause. Had the machine home and was able to use for about half a day before the same problem occurred, it's currently back at the repair shop. I purchased a refurbished Dell 760 Optiplex which I just received today and am currently using, but this new machine has also randomly restarted 3-4 times now and I'm at a loss as to why. It came preloaded with Windows 7 Professional, and other than that, I've downloaded Chrome, but nothing else. I have my monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse plugged in to the machine. I have a wired internet connection running through a fairly old Netgear router. Could any of these peripherals be causing this problem? Could it be an issue with my power strip? It seems highly unlikely that a new machine would coincidentally have the same issues as my old one, so I'm trying to figure out if there's something in my setup at home that could be the cause.
Would love to hear any ideas about this.
