I just built a new desktop but for some reason my computer keeps turning on by itself at random times. Everytime i turn off the computer and i come back later it is on sleep mode. (because it turned on and went to sleep). I know its not somebody pressing the power button because i saw the computer turn on by itself in front of me. Also it is sporadic, sometimes it turns itself back on after 10 mins sometimes 30 sometimes takes hours. I've checked all my bios settings and turned off Wake-up Lan settings and such, don't have any scheduled defragment or updates, so i can't figure out the problem?? The only thing it can be is faulty case or motherboard. But i bought a Rosewill Thor V2 (case) and Asus z87 Pro (mobo) which are pretty decent products. I was wondering if anyone had problems with faulty power switch with this mobo or case. Or if anyone knows what setting might be turning my computer on for no reason. Thanks!

Solution
Hey i just built my PC with the Z87-PRO. it has happen to me also. I notice its a problem with actually the Asus AlSuite III. When i got my board installed it was operating perfectly fine. Then the next day I install the softwares on the CD ROM included. After that after shutdown the computer would just boot up randomly. I checked everything to make sure it wasn't being wakening by a wake on lan, controller, task sch. After all that i just restored the system to the point in time where the Asus Alsuite III wasn't install and it works fine now. im going to go only and download the upadted AlSuite III from there to see what results i get.

P.s Is anyone having Wifi problems with the board for online games, there is always frequent lag...

Well apparently you don't know to read the SOLUTION (in bold GREEN) that was solved two years ago.
Instead of continuing this NECRO POST (2 years wow!) maybe you should have followed the solution.
The issue is the INCLUDED SOFTWARE / Drivers the WIFI element will "WAKE ON SLEEP" (you do know what that is on NIC/Wifi is right?) even if you believe you 'shut down', the negative current (since you know what a Ohm Meter is) keeps electrical devices alive, and thus the WIFI keeps in a SLEEP state because you have power connected, though you 'shut down' Windows (software).

The pointed out solutions demonstrates that just because 'WINDOWS' is off doesn't mean the Hardware isn't still 'alive' with power. The reason why your BIOS stays as you set it, the reason why your TIME is always correct, etc.

Fetpower- I had the same problem with the computer turning on spontaneously as well. If you look down at my previous post, I list what I did to trouble shoot it. Eventually I disabled the ASUS WiFi [I think it was in the BIOS] and that solved the problem. It has been 9 mos without a problem.

Ok, I had the same problem. I tried the suggestion of enabling the "erp ready" option in the bios and voila, problem solved. My system no longer turns on by itself anymore. Previously it would turn on by itself after 5 hours of a complete shutdown. Very annoying issue, thought I was imagining it first time it happened but after enduring it for days I realized ya this is a problem that needs to be resolved. Hats off to the guy on these posts that said enable the "erp ready" option.

I have a similar issue. My Asrock H97 Pro4 suddenly won't shut down. It just starts back up, no matter what I do.

I checked the BIOS and wake from lan is disabled. I have no WiFi on my board.

It all started when I pressed the power button to shut down my computer, because I was too lazy to sit back down to close it properly.

Now it is on 24/7, although it does go into deep sleep and powers off. I just wiggle thje mouse to wake it up.

Anyone know of a different way to shut off properly?
