My system suffered a motherboard failure and I'd like to upgrade it but was wanting to work with DDR3 ram, where do I look?

Been having quirky issues, burnt a video card up, thinking I just want to trash the old system save the ram and drives, would like to complete the build under a grand. Thanks for the response volkgren

You guys are right, my son was looking for more DDR3 ram... now he's got 8GB's. Thanks for the suggestions, was looking at the part list and really can't find any fault or concern except the omission of a sound card, is the onboard audio sufficient to forgo a dedicated card?

Got everything ordered last night, look'n forward to the challenge. Also ordered a stand alone DVD/CD burner as I realized this new build is without the external bays and I do like to burn a CD every once in a while.
Just wanted to say thank you to the community on your timely and knowledgeable responses. It's forums like this that make the net such a valuable resource. Cyberbach

Well crapity crap, crap. Got everything installed, hooked up my keyboard, mouse and monitor and powered it up for the first time.... fans spin, memory and video card light up but no signal to the monitor. Was using HDMI so I hooked up a VGA cord directly from the back panel and still no signal.... lost.

I just looked over the posts in this thread and realize an X370 motherboard was suggested. That's likely your issue, because X370 requires a bios update to be compatible with 2nd-gen Ryzen CPUs. He should have suggested an X470 motherboard.

You can request a loaner CPU form AMD to administer the update. I don't know how long the request process will take.

Or you could find a Micro-Center and buy a cheap compatible CPU or order one online.

It's all good, I'm just extremely thankful that there was a good reason this thing won't boot.... I was about to go mad!
I've already filled in all the required fields at the AMD support page and requested the boot kit. Thanks again to all, I'm sure I'll have more questions once the boot kit arrives, it's been 10 years since I had to do a bios flash, don't want to screw up and brick my system.

I kind of think AMD was taking their time thinking I would find a local solution, in almost every e-mail they preface it by saying if I no longer need the boot kit to respond as such. I just found it odd that they sent the FedEx return label to print out on the 8th and the e-mail said I had 5 days to print it out which will end on Monday... I'm hopeful the CPU has already shipped and will be at my door on Monday, just really perplexed with the lack of tracking numbers, they gotta know I'm anxious right?

OK, today I got the boot kit from AMD, a CPU and heatsink fan combo. Of course I had to take off my heat sink and cpu and then I had to reinstall the fan support that I had removed to fit my current choice. Got it all hooked up, connected my cat 5 cable, booted it up and hit delete, went right into the UEFI and I found the UEFI Update utility. There are 3 options below it. The first is BIOS Instant Flash. When I click it I get a No Supported Device screen with a highlighted OK. The next option is Internet Flash - DHCP (Auto IP), Auto. When I hit it it initializes internet connection, then analyses the system and says No Firmware Update Available Now. OK, I went back to the first option, BIOS Instant Flash and noticed there is a screen to the right that says: Description Save files in your USB storage device and run Instant Flash to update your UEFI. Please note that your USB storage must be FAT32. OK, now it made sense that I got the No Supported device screen. So now I plug in a USB drive and hit the instant flash and it says No Image File Detected.

Am I to assume I have to go on another computer, find the ASRock website and download the bios onto a flash drive? I thought this was supposed to be instant? What am I missing?

I found a 5.0 version on the ASRock website and have it downloaded onto a flash drive, gett'n ready to plug it in and hit delete again then try the instant flash.... at worst I will cook the mobo and will get a X470 instead and I won't have to mess with this again. :)
