So my family just got a new tv and I wanted to connect my desktop to it for a while (for the purpose of playing certain games on it) and I used to do it on our old tv using a dvi cord (I'm pretty sure that's what it was at least) but our new tv doesn't have the same kind of port so I did what multiple websites recommended and went with the only combination of port I could, DisplayPort to hdmi. But once I plugged it in (display port in to desktop, hdmi into tv) it didn't even register that I plugged something in
I've tried wiggling and making sure that it was in all the way, and I've tried a large number of different order of turning things on and plugging them etc. not sure what else to do, no one else seems to be having this issue (or at least they haven't been asking online)

Thanks in advance!

Well as it turns out I'm just an idiot, there were still the rubber pieces in the DisplayPort and hdmi ports, I just always overlooked the pieces thinking they were part of the graphics card, just plugged in an hdmi I had and voilà! Thanks for your help anyways!
