I was on Google the other day trying to figure out how to better manage my home network measuring the bandwith from different devices and things that I am doing on the network. If not an exact amount, is anyone able to provide me with the measurements for the following bandwith consumption


Netflix Streaming
Steam/Xbox/PS4 Online Play
Pandora Radio Streaming
Standard Web Pages such as

I've been on google trying to get some accurate measurements but to no avail. Any and all help is greatly appreciated

You can monitor bandwidth usage with a router running open source firmware (tomato or open DDWRT)

One question, once you have googled these and found the answers how are you going to better manage it?

1. Set parental controls
2. Cut down on gaming
3. Same as above
4. For this I don't know


Really these are general questions that I am asked and I always say "it all depends on how much you do it, it can fluctuate." But I never knew the exact (or estimated) amount of bandwidth consumption for these services

Isn't this a per-device monitoring? Meaning is not a one central management for all devices on the LAN.

Yes, that is a per device monitoring. But this is the simplest way to do this. Just add the numbers on every device.
