Hello! I'm having quite some difficulty figuring out what's causing this, I hope someone can help me sort this out. So out of nowhere, one day (yesterday) I started my PC in the morning and got a pop up window saying that a USB device was unable to install. I head to Control Panel and find it listed under "Unspecified" and it's named "Unknown device". I click it and go to the "Hardware" tab and see it says "Universal Serial Bus Controller". It says this beside Location: "Port_#0001.Hub_#0003" and this for Device Status: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and lastly, the producer is Microsoft apparently and this is the Driver Date: 21/06/2006.

One very strange thing, however, is that my PC waits at the manufacturer boot screen way longer than usual. I look through my PC and while I'm in the manufacturer logo screen my Motherboard has a digital number showing "98". After I pass the manufacturer logo screen however, I boot normally fast. (I'm guessing it's not the SSD since the code 98 means it's searching for something? Normally it would be A1 or A2 or something I don't remember). I had recently (Not even a week ago) installed an SSD and my boot speeds were amazing and they still are, it's just this manufacturer logo screen that takes a long time.

Things I've tried:

Checked driver updates for it in control panel
Installed drivers from my motherboard CD
Checked windows update (nothing)

USB Devices plugged in currently:

Razer Mouse
Razer Keyboard
Logitech Webcam
HP D110 Printer

Motherboard:

AsRock Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3

System Restore means restore your previous settings from a specific date. Meaning those files you have saved on your PC, the programs you installed will be removed and the last settings on your PC will be applied. So much better to backup your files on your FLASH DRIVE (much better to use Flash Drives as they are external drives).

If you're done backing up, let's make a Restore Point for today.
- Right click Computer / My Computer, on pop-up menu, select Properties
- On pop-up window, click Advanced system settings found on the left side panel
- On pop-up System Properties window, click System Protection tab
- Click Create button
- Type a description for your name (ex. F*ck this Unknown Device) 😛
- Click Create button
- Wait until restore point is done
- Click Close when finished.

To use System Restore
- Click System Restore button
- On pop-up System Restore window, click Choose a different restore point and click Next
- Tick Show More Restore Points, then select a date one week before this Unknown Device appeared
- Click Next
- Click Finish, Windows will automatically reboot. (see screenshot 6.png)
- Wait for System Restore to finish while it recovers the previous settings.

Note: There is a POSSIBILITY that this Unknown Device will appear if this is a USB Device. Since you said that your Mouse is plugged in the Keyboard, have you tried to plug it in the PC? Or atleast try to plug the mouse on the PC (not on the keyboard) and check if this Unknown Device still appear before doing the System Restore.

Yes. I tried plugging it into numerous USB ports on the PC itself but it the device didn't go away. I shall try System Restore as it seems like all else has failed.

Wait, I'm at the part where you click "Show more restore points" but only see the 19th as the furthest restore point. This problem happened on the 17-18 so how do I restore it to then?

N umber 98 - Is when the mobo is communicating with the Input devices... if they are wireless, it'll take time, if they are USB things it'll take time only the PS2 one get up really fast.

The problem would be on your USB devices, can you try to use another mouse, plug it on your PC and check if the same problem will appear?

Hey, I found the culprit and after removing it, my whole problem went away. So I downloaded USBDeview (Highly recommend it to you for future problems if you don't already know about it) and it showed me EXACTLY what the problem was. This software shows every usb port and since my was port 1 hub 3 I think, I scrolled down and saw that it was my WLAN Adapter lol. After numerous attempts to download appropriate drivers we came to a conclusion that the usb adapter had died. I removed it and everything is fine now. Thanks for all you help!

Lol I had no idea either/forgot about it since it's INSIDE my PC. I had to open the case and yank it out.
