I recently picked up a new PowerColor Devil 13 R9 290x (Dual chip GPU) on sale for quite cheap, but I only have a 750w PSU at the moment. I know you can turn off crossfire/the second chip in CCC, so would it be possible to turn off the second chip until a nice 1000w deal comes along? I'm in no rush, I would rather wait for a nice 1000w than cheap out (I'm only running a single 60Hz 1080p monitor right now anyway). I'm using a EVGA SuperNova 750 B2 if it makes any difference. Thanks!

Believe it or not, 1000w is listed as the minimum. I agree that it will probably be fine on 850w but running a card with 4 8-pin connectors that is rated to up to 650w by itself....lol. I ended up ordering a new EVGA 1000P2 that I got with a promo.

I just recently got the card too, probably the same place where you got yours. Actually, a 850W PSU will do just fine, just don;t plan on overclocking it (not much headroom for a OC anyway). While some say the cards can use up 650W of power, that's probably what they were designed to use as a limit but in reality, they actually use up to 450W-500W (reference: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/powercolor-devil-13-dual-amd-r9-290x-review,3853-8.html)

But anyway, hope you like your new PSU and card :)
