hi all
My new board run's great with one 512 stick of crucial pc3200 ct6464z40b
single sided ram. running in dimm slot 2
however when I install a second 512 stick of identical ram it wont even boot into windows.
it either crashes when the winxp logo appears or a blue screen flashes and it reboots.
Iv flashed the bios to the newest one so im a bit stumped.
Iv tryed both sticks on their own and thier fine, iv tryed 2 sticks in slot 2&4
and 1&3 and I get the same problem.
the ram setting in the bios are all on auto could this be the problem?
I would really appreciate some help
Thanks

-Loosen the timings manually
-Check the DFI website for mem compatibility
-If you want to use dual channel always buy two sticks at once. Can't you trade them in for a dual kit? If you can't you can always try single channel mode.

I increased the ram volt to 2.8
it booted up ok, i then played doom3 for 5mins and after exiting the game windows froze and I had to reboot.
Does this mean I need to up the volts again?

sorry to sound stupid
but the dfi board has got so many ram setting im not sure which one to change
what are the timings called
here are some of the settings
dram frequency
command per clock
cas
ras
min ras

Agreed, that ram is crap and isn't rated for any aggressive timings. He's lucky he got even one stick working at somewhat tight timings.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

I can empathize gwynn, its frustrating not being sure about memory support. I guess maybe that the nforce 4 chipset is so new right now that not everyone has had a chance to test their memory with it. I mean, you'd think that any halfway decent namebrand RAM you buy would work, but yours isn't the first story like this I've heard. In fact, I was thinking about getting the same mb as you, and I am trying to get info from some of the manufacturers about what memory will work. I kinda like the new patriot RAM, was also thinking about corsair or (if i can afford it) some Crucial Ballistix. It seems only the corsair memory is listed as being supported atm, and the thought of having to pay that "restocking" fee is really irritating.

I haven't had much luck with Value memory, even from Corsair or Crucial. It always works as specified, but thats it. Nudge up your FSB, add a 2nd module, tweak the timings, set the motherboard "performance" setting to "turbo" and its unstable.

I just read a couple reviews were people had it working had two running stable 3-3-3-1T @ 2.8v then I saw it was the CT6464Z40B.8T

If it makes you feel any better that memory runs pretty good on intel platforms.

I would contact Crucial's Tech support and see what they have to say. Who knows, maybe they will have a solution.

Thanks. I got a hold of Crucial and pdp systems. Crucial says all ballistix mem will work, and pdp says recommends the llk, elk or xblk mem lines.
