And that "under 8 hours" thing is misleading.

I can beat Morrowind in 2 hours.

My friends have been dungeon crawling the side dungeons and exploring, and they finished in 12 hours. It's not a long game in the earnest sense, and there is no way to describe it as otherwise. And that's not a knock against it, I'm just saying that's how it is. That was always the point of the layers added by Hardcore etc.

I've known most of these guys for about 13 years. We were all in a top 50 US wow guild, we were all hardcore ladderers in D2, 1 of us is a high masters league SC2 player who hits up a decent amount of pro ams. We're all pretty deeply invested in Blizzard gaming. They don't hate the game. Of all of us in vent (which is about 14 people at the moment) only 4 can't make it into the game anymore. Other than that I've been getting play by play of their goes through the game so far while I play my own games.

I think that's fairly credible, don't you?

Oh my this got heated. Thanks @casualcolors for reminding my point of view.

I wrote this in the perspective of someone who played only for 4 hours and said so and also said I was no expert of diablo series etc. I mostly did 1-2 playtrough of d1 and d2, not more. Keep it in mind, I am no hardcore player, I only went as far as what is considered normal difficulty on each of the games. Enough to get a feel for it and read and enjoy the story thru. Not enough to be involved with the game on the long term.

My opinions of the game were based upon that and aimed at some readers that play the same way I do. I will defenatly not reach level 60 in D3 (no idea it went to level 60). I will do the same as I did with D1-D2, torchlight, titanquest. Play the single player campaign, do it once or twice maybe some MP with a friend and then move on. My comparison was made for that kind of gameplay. Some people will play it the way I do and will find the info I posted useful and of course others, most others will not play it that way and find the info useless.

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury to put myself in an expert's view as I am no expert. Of course I respect the opinions of experts and won't go out of my way to say that I agree or not with one of them, it is just not wise as the comparison cannot be matched. So again, my point of view is from someone who will play the single player story once or twice for the fun of it and maybe play with a friend in MP, very casual play. So if you are an expert or know that this is not your type of play, then you know best to move on and ignore my post.

Also note that I made the effort to re-read my post about 5 times before posting it (same for this post), made sure to keep polite and respectful and wrote to the best of my ignorant knowledge. Despite that, it is a skill that is hard to master for one to not get flamed for giving out his opinions. There is no point in senselessly jumping at the person who gave his opinions, the best is to discuss about it constructively and things endup much more friendly in the end for you, me and the readers.

Keep open minded, not everyone intends to play the game the way you do, nor everyone intends to play the game the way I do. Its my last post here, time to move on now.

Yes sir, I would say so.

I meant no offense, by the way.

Oh I know. Just giving you a description of the characteristics that make their opinion valid to me. It's not like everyone is just railing on the game left and right. I don't think anyone has said "oh yes it was worth the wait" either though.

I commend you for your humility. I may not respect your position in regards to Diablo 3, but I can certainly respect you.

Except me. :na:

But you also have to think, if it takes 12 hours for people of that caliber to complete it, then it will take the average gamer at least 15, and will take me at least 20.

Finally, got to play the game last night for a few hours. Only got to lvl 9 w/ Monk. So far i'm really enjoying it. I played some single player for a little bit, then joined a couple WoW buddies and played to the end of Act I with them before hitting the sack.

It was fun taking time to explore and killing all the baddies.

Monk is more fun than I thought it would be. The more skills I unlock, the more I enjoy the class. Think my only gripe with Monk is a lack of fist weapons, but I know i've only scratched the surface so far. Just weird using a mace and sword with Monk. The fight animations don't look right with them equipped.

I'm glad I didn't play the closed beta very much. I am met with all kinds of little surprises starting out.

The only major negatives I experienced are the random disconnects and high latency. Sure, this affected my game-play experience, but I know it's most likely a temporary thing, being launch day and all. Hopefully, this will get better soon.

Great game overall, only minor gripes from me thus far. Looking forward to playing it more this evening.

Oh, and my wife hates it :)

Any other opinions of the game so far? (Good, bad, or ugly) 😀

Phew. Ok - that was some lengthy reading guys!

It looks like everyone has some points on this game. Just can't wait to make up my own mind about D3.

I noticed something about the game mechanics while watching some "fighting" trailers. It kind of looks like hitting baddies is somewhat "off". I dont know whether or not it was just the flash video I was watching at the D3 website - but it seemed somewhat odd everytime the Barb hit enemies. Kind of like the sound was not synced with the hits. I had to double check my sound settings to make sure it wasn't messed up - so I checked a DVD as well as some other flash videos (not at Diablo website) it seemed normal.

brett I have a question for you, when you disconnect - does all of your stuff save? Say for example you just killed a champion-type baddy and dropped some good loot - however you get disconnected. Will you appear near the loot once reconnected, or do you start off back in town? I'm just not sure how the disconnecting part works.

I think I made up my mind which char i'm going with...going to try out the wizard once I get the game!

Hopefully it should be in this afternoon - it's 1 step closer to me than it was yesterday!

@Chainzsaw

Yes, so far all my stuff in my inventory was saved when there was a random disconnect. Now, if I joined back in the game, I might be back in town, or somewhere else, but my stuff is still there, as well as my experience/lvls accumulated. No roll back bug so far :)

I never noticed anything being "off" when fighting. The sound and fight animations seemed spot on for me (when there was no latency/lag mind you). It's possible those videos weren't sync'd properly or they were suffering lag during it??

My buddy was playing a Wiz. Other friend was a Barb. We wrecked the place :).

Wiz had great utility/dps in our party. Between his snares, my knock-backs, and the Barb tanking, it was nasty 😀.

My friend and I played 2-man co-op for about 12 hours yesterday.. level 28 in Act 3. Left no rock unturned. Great fun. I'm playing a Witch Doctor with his Barbarian. I must say I'm a little disappointed with Witch Doctor - not to say it is bad - just not quite what I was expecting after playing in the Open Beta. On the other hand, I played a Monk for a few hours solo - awesome.

Ok thanks for the information brett. It might have been just the video I was watching at the time. I'm glad there's no roll back bug 😀

Haha love the description as well of the battles.

@Crush Does the witch doctor have any abilities to raise the dead/minions like the necromancer did in Diablo 2? In D2 I loved the necromancer and his ability to call up golems.

You can actually have minions with you at all times.. 3/4 Zombie Dogs.. and a big guy.. I forget what the skill is called. Don't think I have a skill that lets me Raise Dead or anything yet. There might be one but I've kind of just been checking out the skills as they come.

So, after a lengthy reading, correct me if I'm wrong but

there's no skill or stat points to be spent, ever. At any given level two players can match their skills exactly since there's no permanent choices on anything. So, the only dungeon crawling aspect that would have you going back for more would be equips and hardcore modes (inferno, hell, etc).

Am I right or am I right? If not, what statistic is there to promote running the same class through the game multiple times?

No real reason to do so anymore.

@AntiZig

Not exactly sure? The runestone thing according to what I read basically allows you to upgrade a certain ability - but it gives it good stat upgrades.

Correct me if i'm wrong....I probably am.

Hi guys , first of all thank all of you for posting on your game experiences D3 is a great game... I started playing my monk yesterday morning ..then today in the morning I was going trough the classes when I finally got to play the barbarian and in the first punch I saw a head roll away from an undead body like Babe Ruth had hit a home-run....what can I say ? I was hooked!!!! ....I continued playing the barb ..got a sword that steals life and a blue dagger that has something else (lightning?) ..both glow in the dark lol .. I could not imagine playing a Barb will be this awesome. I also liked the WD ..was boring at first ..but then I got Spiders !!! lol ..could not stop laughing ...it was another awesome moment lol ....I really don't know why are people complaining about D3 being bad ...it's awesome .. it can run on cheap GPU's .., I got it for free because I play WoW and will continue doing so once MoP gets out ...also no fee to pay it and the story is great .....BTW im playing it on a 550ti and game play is fluid ...but ..i'm itching for an upgrade ...but don't want to spend more than $250..any suggestions ...

Haha nice - the head rolling off. Yeah I like the effects of the game when I saw the trailers - the body's flying everywhere, and the cool looking ragdoll effects, that put a smile on my face.

As for GPU - you might want to ask this question yourself in the GPU forum. Your answers my get lost in all the posts here.

I played the game last night for about 4-5 hours with my brother in a 2 person group and then with my wife's cousin in a 3 man group. I clear the first act in about 3.5 hours moving a decent pace (my brother was lvl 12 so we were killing pretty fast)

I am playing a Barb and my bother is a WD.... We both love our classes. Game is fun. Yes the ability to micro manage my characters in D2 might have been the most addictive part.... I had 2 Pallys.... Hammerdin and PVP.... 2 Sorces (ORB and Meteor) that to me was fun having to build my char just right. In this game there is no reason to play the same class twice...

So while I am having a blast I do not forsee dumping 500-700 hours into it like I did D2 over the years....

I could see 250+ though. Which is still a heck of a lot of value for 60 bucks.

Add a minimun of 100 hours for each expansion they do.... lol....

I give it a 9.5 and I would give D2 a 9.6.... Lets see how the end game content plays out.

GUYS.....GUYS I HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT THIS GAME....

I FINALLY GOT IT LOL. Sorry for all the caps...i just can't contain my excitement.

I probably won't reply back here for a while 😉

Just got my D3 yesterday, couldn't help but stay up till 3 am even with work at 8 (and yes I did go lol). I played a bit more today, got to lvl 17. I'm using a wizzard, its dope as hell and I got lucky and got a bunch of good friends on my list.

pm me if you want to add me

Maybe no real reason for you.

There very much is a real reason for, you know, the rest of us.

Enjoy your cartoon dungeon crawler, 'colors!

HWAHAHAHA!!! 😛

care to clarify yourself by answering my question any better than casualcolors did?
