Did I get a bad chocie of motherboard ?

I got the msi z170 3 i already orderd with i5 6600k can i overclock ? i have cooler master 212 evo i will overclock when i get new cpu cooler but is the mobo bad choice ?

I do not think there are any bad Z170 motherboard choices.
Yes, you can overclock, and the hyper212 will do the job.
How high will be determined by your luck in getting a good sample.
You might expect 4.5.
If you get 4.7 or 4.8, you scored a very good chip.

yes you can overclock your 6600k but if i was you i wouldn't of picked that mobo,
i always stay away from msi for mobo, its just me lol, you should have gone with
an asus or gigabyte mobo imo

It should be decent , 212 EVO will allow some mild overclocking.

look at the reviews at like newegg what board has much better that a 50% 5egg ?? not many if any at all

so its 50/50 you got one that works as you expect it to it seems anymore these days
