ok... my current system is as follows:

PIII 667 (x2)
Supermicro P3DM3
512mb SDRAM PC133
Quantum Atlas 10k 18gb U160 scsi drive
ATI AIW Radeon 32mb
SB Live! Platinum sound card
Plextor Ultraplex scsi cd-rw
Plextor 12x/4x/32x scsi cd-rw
Pioneer 10x scsi dvd
Zip scsi
Jazz2 scsi
Supermicro fulltower w/ 300w P.S.

I used to be a 3D Animator. Im got out of that field. So I mostly used my system for games, some graphics, surfing. I bought the new ATI Radeon 8500 card and of course it doesnt work with my supermicro mobo (not many things do). So I decided it was time to upgrade.


I got the following:

Asus A7V266-E mobo
XP 1900+ processor
512mb ECC DDR ram
Adaptec 39160 scsi controller
Lian-Li aluminum case
Enermax 550w power supply.


Should I cancel this order, or should I go with it?
 
go...but why not a new video card too? (your AIW radeon is fine...just a thought)

Cancel it. I think there has to be a bigger difference in order to go and use that kind of money.

It's far to soon to upgrade your PIII for what you intend to do. Go and find yourself a cheap compatible GeForce 2 or GeForce 3 Ti200 for that matter.

Just look what's in the pipeline from Intel and AMD. You will be sorry within a year.

I agree with copenhagen, cancel it.

Next month an all out war is gonna break out as Intel releases new chip and AMD lowers prices to compensate.

January will be the time to buy when many models of CPU will be discontinued and discounted heavily.
