Difference between i7 2600 and i7 2600k?

Here are the differences between the Intel® Core™ i7-2600 and the Intel Core i7-2600K:
Intel Core i7-2600
-TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) a business level virus protection feature.
-VT-d (Virtualization with Directed I/O)
-Intel HD 2000 Graphics
Intel Core i7-2600K
-Unlocked multiplier (allows overclocking)
-Intel HD 3000 graphics (Improved graphics)
Unless you are using TXT or VT-d the value of the unlocked multiplier gives the Intel Core i7-2600K a very nice advantage over the Intel Core i7-2600.

Thanks for getting back so quickly. A second question now arrises though, which genuinely gives better bang for buck between the i5 2500k and the i7 2600k?
 
The better bang for the buck would be the i5 2500k , it's $100 cheaper with the same HD3000 graphics and only .1ghz slower clock. So you would be paying $100 for .1 ghz clock speed. I think that the 2600k might go higher on an overclock but not by much and not worth $100.
 
If you are doing almost anything up to and including gaming the Intel® Core™ i5-2500K is almost unbeatable in value and performance. If you are going to be doing something like audio/video creation or some other application that is heavily multi-threaded then the Intel Core i7-2600K will give you a performance advantage over the Intel Core i5-2500K.

Your not paying $100 for .1ghz clock speed ROFL

Your getting 100mhz stock speed, 100mhz turbo increase, 2mb of cache, and Hyperthreading, which is 4 extra virtual cores.

If your doing video editing or encoding, it's totally worth the $100. You can see the benchmarks, the 2600K smokes the 2500K in a lot of benchmarks.

Both i7 2600k and i5 2500k use same graphics chipset @ same base frequency.So graphics output is same.
i7-2500k can be overclocked beyond 5GHz(Intel specifies 5.7GHz)
i7-2600k is hard to overclock beyond 4.8GHz

Did you even read the title of this post before you replied?? The poster didn't ask about a i5. Were talking about i7's. Please pay attention.

Like I said in my last post. The difference is the 2600K is unlocked and overclockable and has better graphics.

I have to call bullshit on this post too. The 2500K and 2600K are both unlocked models, and equally overclockable.

They also both have the IDENTICAL HD3000 graphics implementation.

I have to agree with everything in that article and came to the same conclusions today before even stumbling across it.

Intel, please tell us that you're going to rethink this "creativity" in your feature charts come Ivy Bridge. The contradictions and inconsistencies just do not compute.
