Difference in G.Skill Ripjaws 4Gx2 and G.Skill Ripjaws 4Gx1?

I currently have two stick's of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 1.50v PC3 12800 4Gx2 on my motherboard and wanted too add two more 4GB stick's. I found another pair that look's identical but they are G.Skill DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 1.50v PC3 12800 4Gx1. Can someone please explain the difference in the 4Gx1 and 4Gx2 and which is better and would they be compatible. Thanks.

Look up the part numbers, probably mean single and double density. Some motherboards are picky with mixing those.

I assume the RAM indicating 4Gx1 is a single stick of 4 GB RAM.
The one indicating 4Gx2 represent two sticks of 4 GB of RAM totaling 8 GB.

Ideally you only want to use a single kit of RAM in each computer

By mixing separate kits or modules, there is a chance they may not work well together at full speed. Must test to find out.
