What is the difference between Power Supply Units for Athlons, Pentium III and Pentium IV?

Can you use the same PSU for PIII and PIV but not for Athlons? ie The difference between PIII and PIV is that there is an extra connection for PIV and thus the PSU can be used on both CPU types? and the PSU for Athlons are totally different to those designed for Pentiums??

Pentium 4's require ATX12V power supplies (the connector and I believe some change in the ATX2.03 spec). Typically speaking ATX power supplies are backwards compatible to 2.01 (or even 1.01) which is what most Athlon/Pentium III's use. At least I haven't read anywhere that anything other then a Pentium 4 requires even ATX 2.03.

In most cases if you have an ATX12V power supply (usually will say Pentium 4 compliant etc) you should have no problem using it with an Athlon or Pentium III system. You just don't need to use the extra connectors.
