Hey guys, I was just wondering, is it ok to use different frequency memory sticks in different channels? I have a MSI b350 Gaming Plus which has 4 memory slots but only allows dual channel, not quad. I’m currently using 2x4gb Patriot Viper 2133mhz DDR4 and want to add some more. Should I buy another 2x4gb of the same or can I use for example a 2x8gb of 3000mhz or 2x4gb of 3200mhz? Would they also have to be same brand and make or could I use Corsair Vengeance for example?

Either get 2x4GB of the same or 2x8GB of 3200Mhz (But I highly recommend you do the latter). Don't buy higher frequency ram, as the motherboard will set both to the lower frequency anyways. If you do go with 2x4GB 2133, keep in mind you should buy ram with the same timings, and that you won't get as much performance as 2x8GB 3200, or even 2x8GB 2133.

So I either get 2x4 of the exact same or just forget the sticks I have and get 2x8 of higher frequency, correct? Yea I’ll probably do the latter to be honest. Thanks for the input

Same thing , exact match, identical have no guarantee to be compatible together. Memory is guaranteed in the form sold.

Adding extra memory has no guarantee to be compatible with your existing memory. You can make any combinations you want and do your own compatibility testing with no guarantees.

Correct memory speed to buy also depends on the processor model. Populating more than 2 memory slots could dramatically lower the supported memory clock speed.

What is guaranteed is the use of a single kit.

Thats a bit dramatic. Sure this is 1st gen ryzen and the memory controller isn't great, but you won't be getting frequencies lower than 2133. Maybe at 4000 Mhz it will drop dramatically, but most likely not 2133.
