Summary: I’m updating the wifi driver for my HP laptop but I’ve noticed that the driver for download in the HP site is older than the one I see in device manager. I wonder why.
Here’re the details:
I have an HP laptop (HP G62-b80SS) and I want to update the wifi driver. I go to device manager and I see this network adapter entry: Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. I guess this is the wifi network adapter. So I right-click to see the date and version of the driver: driver version 5.100.245.20, date 13/03/2012.
Now I go to HP to check what’s the last driver: I have several entries: Ralink wifi adapter, Atheros wifi adapter, and only one for Broadcom: Broadcom Lan driver for WLAN for Windows 7 (I have Windows 8 but I guess it’s compatible). Date: 2010-08-05 Version 5.60.350.11.
My doubt is: how can the version in the HP site for my laptop model be OLDER than the one I have installed?
At first I thought that perhaps Windows Update downloaded a newer version directly from Broadcom. Is this possible?. I’ve tried to get this driver directly from Broadcom but I see no option to download drivers from their website. I’d like to update this driver because I’m having an issue.
I guess the other wifi drivers offered (Atheros, Ralink etc) are for other wifi cards and are not for my Broadcom wifi card, am I right?
