Hi,

Lately I've been having difficulties creating another partition on my HDD. For whatever reason, whenever I try to create a partition, it states that I can only create a partition with 603 mbs of data. Obviously this isn't good enough. In the last week or so, I've been deleting data left and right and I currently now have 40 gbs of free space out of my 465 gb hard drive. With all that space, why can't I at least make a partition worth 20 gbs? Any ideas? Because I'm completely lost.

Hi

You should not shrink a partition which is nearly full.

40GB free out of 465GB counts as nearly full

If you run 'disk cleanup' you should be able to gain more space
(Restore points can be cleared and amount of space they are allowed to use can be reduced, similarly for the recycle bin)

If you are making a partition with the same drive, you must shrink that drive in size, (using disk management) and use the leftover space to create a new partition with.

Make sure you partition the new partition as NTFS.

If you want more free space to use, use a program called ccleaner to delete restore points and your temporary internet folders.

If you are dualbooting linux, then just boot into the linux live cd/usb.
Then, click on install button.
Now make 2 partitions.
One as ext3 (or ext2) and selected as root (/)
Another that is swap. Then you can just install ubuntu (on the ext partition)
