My whole Windows has gotten messed up and so I'm trying to fix an error. Every tutorial tells me to load up the Windows Installation CD and click Repair Your PC then to go to the CMD. It then tells me to type in 'dir a:' and see if Windows is installed there, if not, try every letter (e.g. 'dir b:' 'dir c:' ...) I tried every single letter and yet Windows could not be found in any of them. I was just trying random things when I typed in just 'dir :' with no letter and suddenly I see Windows, Program Files, Users and so on. However the next step of the tutorial tells me to type this in: 'bcdboot [dir letter]\Windows /S [dir letter]:'
But the letter than Windows in is empty and so I can't do this. Any help?

Solution
there is an easier way to find the partition you are after
go into command prompt again
type diskpart and press enter
type list vol and press enter - this will show all the partitions on the PC and should show where the windows partition is (it should be obvious, probably biggest on drive) - its info field should show System

this is what mine looks like

type exit to get out of diskpart and try the commands you have been given - what is the link?
