I recently installed XP x64 Pro on my new computer and now I am trying to get Directx 10. Where would I download DirectX 10? I have been trying to read and search for it, but I have had no luck...and my video card driver cd only has Directx 9.0c on it.

Thank you for your help,
Jay

Yeah, I wish DX10 would go unto XP64 Pro, since I already have that OS, but alas, it doesn't There's been a few rumors about some hackers that have been trying to figure out a way of doing it, but so far, nothing has come of it. But I also see M$'s point of view. If DX10 had been able to be installed onto XP64, then who would have bought Vista 64? I sure wouldn't.

There are hax for individual games... Your gonna have to find those on your own if that is important to ya, and you need a DX10 card. To run any game with DX10 quality you need a card of the 8800 flavor, the HD 2900 flavor, or HD 3800 flavor. But really if you are gonna ask here you need Vista as well.

For those of you who don't know directx 10 is avaliable for xp here's the link http://www.technospot.net/blogs/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp-from-alky-project/
as for card's that support them ATI: I dont know Nvidia: chipsets are 8400 and up so enjoy the dx10 if your card can support it.
This isn't from microsoft but if you follow the install instruction's it does in fact work

i found that file http://depositfiles.com/en/files/5636758 it is hacked dx for xp i didnt try it yet and i hope it will help you

@ jayn1321,

Seriously don't bother with the guys linking to so called DX10 patches for XP. I haven't heard of such a thing and if it was available you can bet it would be all over these types of forum. Both those guys have a single post and are linking you to something that to the best of my knowledge doesn't exist. Now call me cynical if you like but i smell a rat.

If you are on the level you will appreciate why i have posted this warning and others will come along and back what you are saying.

well i bealive you must check the files before run it but you should know that microsoft dont made dx 10 for xp to make you buy the new os vista ... so if you dont have money or you like xp better coz it is a faster os and letting free more memory you should try it i was searching for it when i found this post and i just register to inform you what i found.I am planing to put it when i will try my new card with xp x64 to get more fps than vista .... btw to check your dx type on run dxdiag..

And i dont realy know that guy Divinity ....
It is 100% luck that we post the same thing the same time and both singleposters .. if you dont bealieve me then check what other guys says for the lates dx versions and make your own appreciate..

honestly, i don't understand why you would get the 64 bit version of xp pro over vista 64. the whole reason for compatability issues was because it was 64 bit instead of 32 bit so vista had problems with that. now if you bought a 64 bit versoin of xp you'd have the same problems and lag because it 64 bit but just not directx10.

64 bit versions are faster than 32 if you run 64 bit programs . A 32 bit client get 32 bit of memory 64 bit can get 64 bit the same time

Total noobs.

Yes there is DX10 for xp x64 and I've got to admit it works amazingly well. I was just playing crysis in DX 10 on it, today.
I had to build the dll's for the version I'm using myself from the source code.
Havn't hit an issue yet with any dx 10 or dx 9 game. All runs as it should do.

Why choose xp x64 over vista 64?

Hal
Stability
Speed
Better utilisation of resources ( no garbage clogging up the os, demanding nearly double memory and cpu specs for games )
Oh, and yes... DirectX10 😀

Remember, xp x64 is actualy windows server 2003 done up to look like xp. Anyone who's used that os will tell you it's the fastest most stable os microsoft ever built.
It has up to a 25% system gain over xp ( not just in 64 bit apps because gain is due to memory increases and processor data bandwidth increases )

@ d-l33t3,

Only a total noob would post such a statement as a new poster on an established forum without any indipendant suportable proof from a known source.

Why dont you post some info on which one of the differant aproaches to bringing DX10 to vista you are talking about ?

You posted "I had to build the dll's for the version I'm using myself from the source code." Which leads me to suspect either you gave it a quick google or you may actually know why it can be done yourself. And as the above mentioned dlls lead the way to a possable M$ lawsuit, good luck with that.

At the end of the day DX10 dosent give anything that all the trouble would be worth. I know from the point of view of those who are trying that its a because its there to be done and is a chalenge.

All the attempts that i have seen offer results that are very hit and miss. so from a point of view of improving the graphical experiance its a non starter.

As i said if you have some actual reliable proof of what you are saying then post it, if not ...........
" Yes there is DX10 for xp x64 and I've got to admit it works amazingly well." Oh yea you do have to build your own DLL's though.
Really do me a favour.

+1 & QFT

Id like to see this hack as well..... I dont have any issues running XP64, but the DX 10 thing is a bit far fetched.

When I got XP64 there was a voucher to upgrade to vista, If I had another spare HD I would just dual boot, thats the best option. **** switching over to vista, its a heap of ****.

uh no its not

its just not golden...

theres almost no reason for xp users to switch as it offers no major-big-ness benefits... when windows 7 is just around the corner

i read some benchmarks for windows 7 about the beta realese... they will be more crapy than vista and the most crap os after windows me... more memory catch slower boot same kernel as vista .. some programes like magic disk or daemon tools dont suported yet... they add some visual effects some glowing tools.. they never understat that the fists is stabillity and quinckness.I use vista x64 now and triple boot with mac os and ubuntu 64

Rock on. I've been using XP x64 for over 4 years now, and like he said it's rock solid. Compatability issues are really not what they used to be. 64 bit drivers for all of my hardware in my new comp was found within 10 minutes of looking. However, I have not been able to find the DX10 DLL's you are talking about. Could you link me to the source / send me the DLL's?

I'm also interested in try this out, from what i understand (i could be wrong) microsoft had dx 9.0L in the works for windows xp, which will add dx10 support? While dx10 will still be a vista only version, the newer dx 9 for xp will allow games to use dx 10 featuers (until windows 7 and dx 11 soon as well). The simple fact that MS is intentionally crippling a previous operating system instead of focusing on making vista look more appealing speaks volumes about microsoft itself. I don't want to start a troll war so I hope I didn't offend anyone with being anti-MS, but this directx 10 thing really brings my piss to a boil.

I like windows xp. It almost never completely crashes, the OS is responsive, have never seen a blue screen since I built this computer 2 years ago. Vista on the other hand I installed for about a month, tried to give it time to adjust, tried everything i could possibly imagine to speed up games, the os, etc.. (4gb ram 2.4ghz quad core cpu, 512mb 8800gt video, a typical low end gaming computer) and nothing could speed it up, i lost around 15 frames per second minimum when playing WoW. Now I gave it the benifit of the doubt since vista was running dx 10 features (on wow and crysis, not aoc at the time) but i also had every feature that took up resources in vista disabled in the services setup. I basically turned off any service not needed for gaming, which helped a slight bit, but not enough to make want to us the latest version of windows and having it look like windows 95 ! (with the IE 4.0 desktop integration ^.^)

So I reinstalled XP and tried out crysis in directx 10, there is a patch for crysis that allows you to use dx 10 features in that game specifically (crysisunlocker.exe try megagames.com). I tried it, it works and it also gives me a whopping 30 FPS gain over vista... And thats with a stock xp install, no services disabled or anything tweaked what so ever. I understand that microsoft is developing this technology and the money for vista helps cover their efforts and they don't want to support an old OS forever but maybe they could just go ahead and give us the features until windows 7 comes out then cripple xp with dx 11, at least there would be the chance that they made a new operating system worth using again. Anyways thats the end of my rant. I'm been smoking the chron all day so my thoughts might not be real collected.

Now while it is possible to get crysis running in dx 10 quite easily in xp I haven't figured out how to get the rest of the games to work. I'm assuming thats because I'm using xp 64 and i need to compile the drivers from source but it also could have something to do with the games individually checking the OS version number and allowing dx 10 to only be selected if you're running >= windows 6.0 or whatever.

Here are a few links I'm checking out now hoping to get AoC working w/dx10 in xp 64 I'll post again if it works. Again the Crysis Dx10 unlocker is called crysisunlocker.exe google it if you're interested.
