DirectX 11 doesn't seem to work

Hello, this being my first post, I'm not sure where to put it, so I guess I'll put it here.
I'm unable to play games requiring DirectX 11, even though I've downloaded it perhaps half a dozen times. Having stumped myself I decided I may as well ask here. The only feedback I've received from things not working is Civilization V says "Requires Service Pack 2 or greater" As far as I know DirectX doesn't update in the Service pack format, and that Windows 7 SP2 doesn't exist yet, and shouldn't be needed for a game of early 2010 as-is.

I have an ASUS U56E, with the on-board i5 graphics(I thought it might be that, but my brother's i3 runs said DirectX fine, so maybe mine is damaged) and I, quite frankly, do not want to run it back into Best Buy and hope that it's covered by warranty.

This says that it's DX10.1 capable, not 11. It's not a warranty issue, it works as purchased.

It has nothing to do with Windows, it's service packs or i3/i5, it's strictly the graphics card.

Which i5? The first or second generation? HD 2000 or 3000? Neither of them support DX11. The Ivy Bridge ones will though. Intel HD 4000 and what are you doing gaming on integrated graphics?

If your brother has a newish discrete card in his machine that would be why it works with dx11.

It's a 2430m with a 3000. And yeah, I'm gaming on integrated graphics, simply because my father decided he didn't want to pay more than $600. I'll build something soon.
