The R9 series supports DirectX 12. There just weren't any references to DX12 when the marketing descriptions for that hardware was created and they haven't bothered to update it. Plus, DX12 hasn't been released, so it would be pointless to show that you support technology that's unreleased.

R9 cards are GCN architecture which is indicated to support DX12.

Probably doesn't matter though. Games that are developed with support for DX12 probably won't be seen for two or three years at least anyhow.

Once the full version of windows 10 is released, we'll know more about what's what. Windows 10 may change things in this regard due to DX12...

oh thanks for quick response......my motherboard is ASROCK N68CS does it handle 280X or i need to change it.....
one more i checked for R9 280X its coming with two models R9-280X-TDFD and R9-280X-TDBD...
whats the difference in these two and which one to buy

Your board should support the card, but at 1.0 rather than 3.0 speeds, I think, since it doesn't indicate the standard for the slot which usually means PCI 1.0. Most recent BIOS version will probably need to be installed for support of newer cards. Any of those 280X cards should have similar performance with base clock and cooling type being the main differences.

if i buy factory pre-overclocked R9 280X....does i need any cooling system for that?????????

can you please tell in which site for low cost i can buy XFX R9 280X R9-280X-TDBD 1080mhz......if possible can u give me good online sites to buy in canada and US

Actually i fixed to buy XFX brand in 280X (XFX R9-280X-TDFD) with factory overclocked.....but im bit confused in so many brands SAPHIRE, XFX, ASUS and MSI with different performances mentioned in tomshardware charts......can u please suggest which brand i need to take with good performance.

Don't you already have a motherboard? Something wrong with it?

I'd go with one of these two cards, if they'll fit your case:

Preferably the Sapphire.

ASROCK N68CS.....i was planning to take CF board with better HyperTransport than the current one.....what do u say can i stay with it or can i buy a mobo for better performance....as u say lol😀

i see urs is SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0..... how about that for me 😛:)
or Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

Either of those boards is pretty much rock solid. I have absolutely NO complaints about the Sabertooth, at all. I've never had a single issue with it except when I very first installed it, which was instantly cleared up with a BIOS update. It just didn't want to play nice with my GPU but as soon as I updated to the latest BIOS it's been smooth sailing ever since.

The M5A99FX Pro R2.0 is a very good board too. Another couple of pretty decent boards, a little older than those other two and bit cheaper, and using the 970 chipset instead of the 990fx, are the MSI 970 Gaming and the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P. Both are good for overclocking up to FX 8, so pretty much anything you want to do with FX 6 will be well within tolerance.

Um, hey bro I don't have much idea about Gpus just started looking into it as I am planning on buildng my rig, so I was going across the Internet and if I'm not mistaken it was techrader that said the gigabyte windforce is the best, price and cooling wise. Hope this helps if you haven't bought it just yet :)
