I would like to know how to disable hyperthreading on a intel core i7 windows 8. I looked on youtube and google and came up with nothing so my friend sent me here.

When you first turn on your computer you will have a set of instructions briefly on screen (usually along the bottom of the screen) telling you your different boot-up options, look for the one that says BIOS, however if you don't have time to read it, it's usually DEL, so just try hitting that first and that should take you through to the BIOS.
Once in the BIOS, try searching around for any option to disable Hyper-Threading, sometimes this can be located in a "CPU Features" menu, but that largely depends on the brand of your motherboard. Next, once you have disabled Hyper-Threading, save the settings and your computer should reboot automatically, if not, just turn it on after your settings have been saved.

Hope this helped!

Thanks for the help. ill see if it works!

Sorry to say but this did not work. I don't know if its because i have a windows 8 cpu, but i shut it down waited a minute and booted it back up. It showed the HP logo for like 2 seconds and went to my login page. Any other solutions?

You need to restart your system from Windows 8 (it's one of the Shutdown options). You may have to do this a few times in order to figure out what key gets you into your BIOS. Usually it's the DELete key, or F2 key. A message will show up very briefly during startup, indicating what key will get into BIOS. It may be a very brief message, lasting less than a second, so pay attention.

Once you've identified the key, Restart the system (I say "restart" because Windows 8 doesn't usually shut down all the way when you do a "shutdown" and then start up again). So do a Restart, then as soon as Windows shuts down start hitting the key that gets you into BIOS. Hit it at least three times a second and keep doing to until either the system starts beeping at you at each keystroke, or you're into BIOS.

Navigating through BIOS (or UEFI) is a while 'nother story. If you give me the brand and model number of your computer, I may be able to look up your manual and tell you where to go in BIOS to disable hyperthreading.

Heres a link to my cpu's stats http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=120&prodSeriesId=5330773&prodTypeId=12454&objectID=c03666767

For gaming reasons, i play a game called Day-z if you have ever heard of it. On there steam page they insist for you to disable hyper threading if you have a i7. it fixes all the Fps Issues

Neither of the manuals available for downloading from HP tell you how to enter BIOS. They tend to discourage it. I would try hitting the ESC or the TAB key during the logo display to see if it goes away. Otherwise just try hitting a few different keys while booting up, such as F1, F2, DEL, F11 or F12. What I mean is to boot a separate time for each key, don't switch keys during one boot-up. So if you are going to try the five different keys I listed, you will need to boot up the machine five different times, one time to try each key. Just make sure to hit them quickly and repeatedly as soon as the machine begins to power on. One of them should get you into BIOS.

Im having issues with my fps. Im only getting 20-30 when i should be getting 90-100. Thats why i looked on thier page to see why.

none of these worked but i found the soulution my self. If anyone asks link them to this http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-access-the-bios-on-a-windows-8-computer/

That's cool! Thanks for the link. However, we've got two Dell laptops here with Windows 8, and I've been able to get into their BIOS fine by hitting the F2 key during boot-up (or is it Del? Can't remember). But it's nice to know there is an easier way to do it right from Windows. And yes, I hate Windows 8 too, but with Start8 it's not too bad.
