Disc Drive will not AutoPlay with VLC (or any other media player)

Hey everyone! I apologize if this has already been answered before. I have spent hours looking for solutions but have come up with nothing. So here's my issue: Whenever I insert a movie DVD into my disk drive I am able to see the drive show up in My PC. However, when I double click or right click + Open the drive all I see are the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files. The movie will not actually start playing.

I have tried going into my AutoPlay settings but the only options are "Import videos and pictures (Dropbox)", "Take no action", or "Open folder to view files (File Explorer)". Meanwhile when my friend goes into her AutoPlay settings she has the additional option to choose "Play DVD movie (VideoLAN VLC media player)". I do not have that option at all.

I have tried everything from checking registry keys (my keys related to autoplay are all enabled), reinstalling VLC, reinstalling my disk drivers, trying to update my disk drivers, and nothing has worked.

Does anyone have any advice for this matter?

Solution
This is excerpt from Microsoft website:

How to set up Windows to automatically play CDs and DVDs:

1. Open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking AutoPlay.

2. Select the action that you want Windows to perform for each media type, and then click Save.

Note.
Devices that are connected to your computer are listed at the bottom of the AutoPlay window, and you can also select default actions for them.

Hope it helps.

Hi Curry! Thank you for your response, however as I stated in my original question, I have already gone into the AutoPlay settings, and as I stated, the option that you are referring to does not exist.

Actually the tips above works, at least for my OS which is Windows 8. What OS are you using?
When I click on the Autoplay setting, there are options for removable drives, camera, dvds, software etc.

Here's what worked for me. If you don't have a NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry in your registry, you'll need to create it.

Create a file named install.reg on your desktop with notepad. Check the extension is not install.reg.txt by looking at the properties.
The file need to contain all the 4 following lines (including the blank line):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000000

Afterwards, save the file.
Double click on it on the desktop , you should see a message the registry has been properly import.

Restart your computer and, hopefully, autorun will work!
