so i gave up and did not watch the video after that girl went on her steam shopping spree.

so they said that these 3 cards were all going to be available on the 29th? and that was all the new cards from polaris? just want to verify what i missed.

oh ok, thanks :)

got a bit happy thinking we'd see 3 cards in a couple weeks. was too good to be true....

edit: this report says all 3 cards come in on the 29th http://wccftech.com/amd-rx-470-rx-460-announced/ ranging from $100-$300

guess i'm gonna have to go back and watch the replay of the announcement to see just what was said and how.

Gsh darnit crap I missed it. Well, I'm very happy the R7 360 is especially announced. I was not expecting that at all. I'm happy all are available the 29th. Now not only does Nvidia have to work on preparing a GTX 1060, but they also need to work on a 1050 and 1050Ti (and possibly 1040) if they want to compete with AMD in this sector.

E3 is exciting this year. I don't know about you guys, but I'm nearly dying to get this game http://e3.nintendo.com/#

With AMD putting all their mid-range cards on the table, it's safe to say that Nvidia will be adjusting price-performance on its mid-range lineup accordingly. The whole thing about gaining back market share for AMD seems to be that they're relying upon the notion that they will either be the only or best option in the sub-$250 price range. By releasing their cards first, they give their competitor a target to aim at, and guarantee that competition will be tight.

Are you implying that you think GTX 960, 950 prices are going to drop significantly?

More likely saying that when nVidia drops their midrange cards for this generation that they will tune them to match or beat AMD's, as the performance levels from AMD will be known. If they can't beat AMD, they will tune they prices to maintain sales. It's basically the same thing I'm sure AMD is doing with their "Vega" cards now, tuning them to compete or match the 1070/1080, preparing for the inevitable 1080ti, or coming up with prices that will make them better price/performance.

I think the nVidia 9XX and AMD 3XX prices will plummet with the release of the 480. Everything below the 970/390 (assuming the performance is as rumored) will be unsellable without price drops or big discounts. I doubt retailers will want to be stuck with massive stockpiles of the older cards. However, Newegg has been having sales on 960's and 970's for several weeks now, so I think they have likely depleted a good portion of their stock.

Yep, referring to the GTX 1060/1050 that you were mentioning a couple posts prior. (Sorry, for some reason mobile doesn't allow quoting posts.)

As Martell said, the game is played several moves ahead. The reason we haven't seen a GTX 1060 yet is because they are waiting on the 480 before finalizing the specs. And then, yes, the GTX 1080 Ti is waiting in the wings for Vega, and so forth.

@17seconds this works both ways. I fully expect AMD to have a window of time uncontested with these cards (probably a couple of months). Yes NV will likely respond by price cutting their last gen stuff, but let's be honest, for the same money most people want the new design for the new tech. Case in point when the 970 came out AMD had well priced, performance competitive cards on the 290 series. The 970 being the newer design still sold like hot cakes.

The real competition for Polaris won't happen until NV get their Pascal mid range kit out imo.

Well, to be a little annoying, in the past when nVidia has re-badged stuff the public hasn't complained as much as with AMD. So, they could just rebadge whatever they have now and call it a new product to fill the gap. Nothing wrong with it as long the performance and price justify it IMO.

Cheers!

I'm not expecting a couple months, more like a couple weeks. The GP104-150 rumor mill was making the rounds more than a month or two ago with initial rumors having it lumped in with the 1080 and 1070 chips.

My comment was mainly that AMDs strategy seems to rely upon a scenario (being "uncontested") that has a pretty strong chance of not coming to light, particularly given the history of the past few generations. There's another part of your analysis that's being overlooked, Nvidia cards are more desirable. With price-performance equal or even favoring AMD, the Nvidia card will still outsell its counterpart, for example going beyond your 290-GTX 970 analogy, and applying it to the 390-GTX 970 comparison.

If the 470 is even as good as the 970 I don't think Nvidia could price cut the 970 enough without making a big loss, it will be hard enough to price it well enough to make it worth buying against the 480. I suspect there will be a good few months that anyone who knows what there doing will buy AMD @ and below the 480 price and Nvidia above with no cards competing directly at similar (or even close) price points. A dual 380 card would be good idea for AMD but I suspect they may worry about it taking sales from Vega later.

nvidia does seem to be the favorite no matter what the performance is. at least for the last few years. does not bother me really. i am just very excited at what amd is going to do to pricing for us all. a 980 level card for $2-250. that's pretty awesome. the 470 at probably $125-175 that is 970-ish performance. that's insane for the money. nvidia can match it if they want for the same prices, but either way it's a win for the buyers. no idea what the future holds for a 490 type card, but keeping to the low prices, even hitting between the 1070 and 1080 for $350 or so would be a massive hit to the pricing.

i love amd for this pricing strategy. don't care who decides to buy nvidia cards over similar amd ones so long as they get to chose one at this awesome prices.

The only thing that makes me worried is that AMD will not be able to compete at the high-end level. I really wish to see something that'll make the 1080/ti tremble, even if just a little bit. Just for the sake of healthy competition.

always nice to see but i am not going to avoid buying a new Ford simply because they can't compete with the Bugatti Veyron. my mind does not work that way. i shop in the price range i want to spend at and see what is offered. or i look for what covers my needs and see what that costs. above and below does not factor in since that's not where i am looking. if i need a car that can hold 6 people, i don't worry that the one i like does not have a model that can hold 20 people or offers 20 models that can hold 4 people.

despite the fact i understand the desire for amd to have a top end card "just to compete with nvidia", the fact that they don't means nothing to me unless i am looking to buy a high end card. amd has decided that they wish to cater to a different class and has apparently decided to go all out at those levels for now. so if you are in the market for the latest/greatest/fastest/bestest do so knowing there is only one option and you will pay dearly for that choice. 😀

I am rooting for AMD for 2 reasons:
1. FreeSync is SO MUCH CHEAPER.
2. competition means better prices and/or performance for us!

and also because I wish to invest in a top card and would like to feel like I have an option ^^

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Dimitris_1 : "How much is the RX 480 going to cost in Greece?"

Mario is on the right track. Might be as low as 250 euro for the 8GB version though. I'd think that 249 would be seen as desirable for sellers.

hi guys the full spec is release and it rival the gtx 980 and even the r9 nano here the info came from this site

http://wccftech.com/amd-rx-480-faster-than-nano-980/

I'd wait for official reviews. Who knows who their "sources" are? You can't play FireStrike, you can't always translate performance in a canned benchmark to scale performance in actual games. It also doesn't mention any settings. Is this the default Ultra preset? Or has it been tweaked?

well the constant 60 fps + on doom using a vsr 1440p its really good for that price and a win win for those who cant afford 500 usd gpu

That might be true and all, but still. Don't get caught up in the hype ball. It's never good 😛

The saying that goes "benchmarks or bust" is very good to live by. And I just made it up, but it's OK, you can trust me, just like those Nigerian princes 😀

Cheers!

I saw someone post a link for a really early pre-order from a UK sales site but for the life of me can't remember where and I've been trying to find it, it's £240ish for the 8GB so it will be around 300 Euros for the 8GB. Not as cheap as people are expecting in the EU with VAT.
