here's a report than some RX400 cards are already in stores and that they have no guidelines as to when they can sell them http://wccftech.com/amd-rx-480-shipments-hit-us-stores/

might get lucky if you have a microcenter nearby and get a card a few days early like we saw with the 300 series when it hit. i'm gonna check my local best buy in case they got some too (i got no microcenter anywhere near me)

Good luck with Best Buy, my local one is a total rip off. They actually had a R7 250 for $150.99. I almost choked when I saw it! I asked a salesperson about it, they got the assistant manager and she told me that they charge what corporate tells them to and acknowledged that it was grossly overpriced.

only place i can go in town to get the card if it is for sale. so only place to look. but i assure you i won't be paying any more than msrp for it if at all. i'm a bit wiser than the average fool. i'm an above average fool 😀

That's why you need to take advantage of their price match guarantee.

I was once asked to leave the one closest to me. I was just there buying a ethernet cable (was in a hurry so had to eat it on the price gouge) and while checking out a guy saw what I was getting and asked if I knew much about computers. I answered all his questions and showed him he could get the same item cheaper at Newegg. Then I had like 4 people gather around asking questions. It was funny, but the manager at the time didn't like all the sales they were losing, especially when I pointed out how overpriced a laptop was and the person handed the box back to the salesperson and walked out.
I haven't been back to that BB location since and have to drive a bit further to the next closest one. LMAO!

It depends on the process node and die size as to how hot it will and can get. Since we have no real information yet it would be a fallacy to claim that Polaris will handle 95c when it is a smaller node from a different company. We can also note that it is a low power design which might affect it.

Pretty much until it is launched and officially announced we have no idea how hot Polaris will be able to get before having to throttle.

when I looked at the leaked benchmarks the 980 has a 25 fps lead lead over the 480. So i'm comparing it to the 970 because the FPS is closer. That is just me Eyeballing it so wanted to know how you guys thought they compared.

Yeah, the price drops are insane atm.
Usually a $400 card costs ~€500 but now a $460 980ti costs "only" €440 which is unheard of in the EU ^^
Also the rx480 prices may change on release. I'm just speculating with what I have now.

The RX 480 8GB should only be something like 260€ (assuming a $230 price in the US). Little more for non-reference of course, but still.

And there it probably still sits to this day, covered in 2 inches of dust. Poor thing.

Yeah, that makes sense, actually. The UK reseller must be inflating a bit. Currently listed at £300.

@jtk2515

To be honest i refuse to comment on performance until official review coming out. Right now most people i think expect for RX480 to at least match 980 performance. I know some people hoping RX480 to match 980ti performance which is already in 1070 territory. so for what it is until official review coming out i will not going to talk about 480 performance. There are many leaks out there. Even ao many said that that will not going to reflect final performance. But to me how much much recent driver vs RX480 "official" driver will going to change performance? Looking how the crowd respond out there they were hoping with the "official" driver the performance will be significantly faster. And peple should approac wccftech rumor carefully. when they were hyping 1080 they said there will be 2.5ghz 1080 on air from biard partner. With RX480 they say there will be AIB card running 1.6ghz on air. We will know how it goes in a few day.

i'm watching the expectations for the 480 slowly creep up into much more than it should be. i'm not sure it will reach full 980 levels but looks to be closer to a 980 than a 970 if the leaked benchmarks are right. at the price, i'll be very happy with close to 980 levels for the rx 480. but folks slowly building it into a 980ti level card (thus a 1070 almost) seems to be a bit of a stretch. even overclocked to crazy levels (beast mode cards they are calling them) i doubt they'll hit a 1070 level.

looking forward to reviews in a couple days to verify. i sure hope sites get one of each card so we don't have to guess about the 470 and 460.

I didn't compare it to 980ti, performance wise, if it's me you're referring to. I just saw the prices in the EU for the RX480 and 980ti getting really close where getting a 980ti over a rx480 would be a no-brainer. I just expressed my wish in seeing how much faster the 980ti is.
