In general, much of what they have covered has been pretty spot on, and they refine and update as information gets confirmed. Of course, when you have conflicting benchmarks, you need to remember the source.

The only problem I have with it is the hardcore fanboys seem to never be able to differentiate the rumors from facts.

Rumors are like the "telephone" game. When it goes full circle, it's been either inflated to something incredible or it is nothing like it originally was.

WTFBBQTech has been a host for the worst ever possible commentators I have ever read and also the funniest out-of-this-world speculation, haha. I feel that if I comment there, my IQ will lower a couple points.

In any case, thanks for the newegg link. Good to see they are now officially listed.

Can not even get a 2% OC. Good 1080p card for 200$ trades blows with 970 in 1080p but in 1440p the 970 wins. Unsure what specs his 970 are at thou. Even if it's OCed if you can not even get 2% stable on the 480 it's about the same to me because i do not run my cards stock. 9:00 est is when the NDA lifts. So you will have to wait for the other reviews.

That review is click baiting hard.

He intentionally used an OC'ed to the sky 970 and is misleading the conclusions.

Other than that, at least is in-line with what I was expecting. It's a nice 290X replacement for 1080p.

I think the 970 is at 1500mhz. Hopefully his 480 is a Dud and does not reflect the overclocking ability as a whole of the 480. because not being able to get 2% is a joke when it comes with it's new Overclocking software.

The 970 is 1050/1130 and the one used in his video is 1150/1350; or near those numbers. It also comes with a huge aftermarket HSF to keep it cool. Plus, the 480 is a reference design. I am not expecting it to OC, only to keep its advertised numbers. It does get hot, but in-line with all reference cards from AMD as of late, IIRC.

And he didn't say which drivers he used? I don't think he used the ones provided by AMD?

In any case, I wonder what will happen with the NDA in his case.

There are always other factors to overclocked. For all we know his PSU sucks and has excessive ripple, which can prevent a better overclock.

And most chip will never oc the same. Some cannot oc at all despite other card can oc like "overclockers dream".

Interestingly that video shows it doing really well in recent games (except doom) but relatively poorly in older games.

Ok so my local Microcenter is showing the In stock. They have a ton of 8gb versions (XFX, Gigabyte, MSI), and only 2 XFX 4gb, which is what I want. Hopefully by the time I get out of work today one is still there.

Amazon still only shows 3rd party sellers and Newegg says coming soon and sold out still.

Anyone else notice how toms benchmark it against a GTX 970 with over 10% overclock and a 980 with over 5%, some of the AMD cards have slight overclocks none more than 4% and the 480 none. Is this a deliberate attempt to make AMD look bad while sounding impartial?

So the reference 480 OC's <5%(Multiple reviews). Also I see no reason to get the 8gb version unless your going to crossfire the card. So for 200$ it's a good deal. Hopefully the aftermarket cards will address Some of the cards Overclocking problems. Still haven some stuttering problems. They are available on newegg now and in stock. but i would not pay the extra 40$ for the 8gb and with the heat this thing puts out I would wait for a aftermarket.

They clear the waters at the beginning of the article. Looks like finding a "stock" 970 is hard to do?

In any case, that is why there are other reviews out there and the 480 is above the stock 970 and it's a solid replacement for anything *below* the 290X and 970. I am in that group, so I am a happy camper.

Now, the findings in Toms are worrying me a bit for reference cards in regards to power numbers. I'll put it as a huge "wait for non-reference" cards and re-test. I know it's not un-heard of using more PCIe power than 75W, but it is definitely something I won't want in my own computer.

Temperatures are in-line with everything before for reference cards: crappy.

yah the pcie power draw is very bothering to me. was gonna run out and get one for the kids pc but now i'll wait for the custom cards. the old pc they have probably won't hold up to the power draw/spikes the card puts on the mobo.

performance looks good but i have only read tom's review so far. bit lower than expected but overall decent. it still amazes me how wildly the performance of each card differs game to game. noise levels are nice to see since for once the card is not a jet engine inside the case. i can take the oc'ed cards included since i can infer lower reference numbers but it would be nice to see a reference to reference comparison where possible.

amd did say the 470 and 460 also release today. where are they?? not even a hint of their whereabouts on the web!!?!?!?!?

first 480 crossfire review i have seen https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/RX_480_CrossFire/

scales well at 1440p and 4k but lacks at 1080 and lower. though it does get very close to the 1080 is a number of games. looks like this is gonna be VERY game dependent as to how it compares to nvidia cards. overall very impressive.

this page is most telling https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/RX_480_CrossFire/19.html once all the games are averaged together, you can see relative performance of the 480 and 480cf which is more in line with what the rumors were saying. page by page with the wildly changing numbers this overall comparison is hard to see develop. that's why us math geeks always crunch averages 😀
