So I would like it if I could take my Dish Network with me to my cabin. I was wondering if this is possible? I have a good working idea of how networks work and had the idea that maybe I could set up a VPN using the DD-WRT routers I have in both houses. Could I then connect to the base station remotely?

I don't have a Joey yet this would really for me be a reason to get it. I understand that if creates it's own broadcast I'm not sure what kind of controls are on the base station. Any idea's?

Solution
Remove your satellite dish and modem/set top box, set them up at the cabin. As long as you can see the sattelite(s) from where you will be, should work same as at your regular house although you may need their help orienting things properly.

Or are you asking something else since you are talking about using VPN. Do you want to remotely access your TV signal maybe and not actualy looking to "take" the setup with you? Don't think that is possible.

If you are looking to access your TV over the internet from your cabin, I use to have dish network and my DVR had an add-on slingbox so I could access my DVR and live TV from any internet device. If that is what you are looking for then look into a slingbox it requires no VPN to work. But if you are looking to take your set-top box to the cabin then I would look into getting a second dish setup at your cabin and just take the box back and forth.
