Hey all,

I built a system back in 2010 with the following components:

  • i7-930 2.8GHz
    Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R socket 1366
    Corsair 650W
    Samsung Spinpoint 1tb x 2
    Sony Optiarc DVDR
    LG BluRay-RW
    OCZ Gold DDR3 1600 3x2GB
    CM 690ii Advanced Case
    Sapphire Radeon HD 5750
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
It's been working perfectly for me until recently when I got a Disk Boot Failure error at startup, specifically "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". At that time, I disconnected and reconnected all cables to test. I forgot to reattach an old IDE drive that I use as a third drive for storage and the computer booted back up to Windows 7, no problem. After reconnecting that IDE drive, I got the disk book failure error again. I tested that drive via another computer and found no problems with it, but left it disconnected. After that, I started getting Windows Update errors with failures installing updates. Now, I'm getting the Disk Boot Failure again, and still don't have the IDE drive connected (just my SATA 1TB boot drive and SATA 1TB storage drive).

Upon entering BIOS, I got an error in a red box saying "The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages" although all my components have always been at stock values (processor frequency, and RAM timing and voltage). After that, I did try replacing the button cell motherboard battery and resetup BIOS and still have the boot issue.

Can anybody please help me??? I'm wondering if this is a motherboard issue, but don't know how to confirm, much less replace a socket 1366 motherboard. I really don't want to have to buy a new CPU and a new MB if I don't have to! I've been in contact with Gigabyte, but haven't received an answer from them yet.

Can anybody please provide some feedback on this? I see a lot of active threads so was really hoping for feedback. Have I stumped the community, do I need to provide more information, other?
