Disk Read Error Help

I have a Windows Vista Gateway laptop and it won't take me to my home screen. I turn my laptop on and the Gateway screen shows but right after that it say A Disk Read Error Occured press Ctrl+Alt+Del and I do that but it still won't work. I lost the recovery disk that came with the laptop. I bought my laptop many years ago, is there anyway I can fix the problem without a recovery disk or is there a store I can buy a recovery disk to help fix the problem?

You can probably order the recovery disks from Gateway, but the actual problem might be that your HDD is failing.
"A Disk Read Error Occured press Ctrl+Alt+Del" would seem to indicate a dying/dead disk.

perhaps a failing HD. or maybe the cables aren't firmly attached?
