disk read error occured

Last night I dropped my wireless mouse to my laptop and after restarting my computer I get a " disk read error occurred, press Ctrl alt delete to restart" error on a black screen. And I can't get past this screen. I don't have my win7 disk either. Thanks in advance! Never seen this before.

If it didn't knock a cable loose inside, it may have damaged the drive. Was the laptop on when you dropped the mouse on it? It's not 100%, but typically that's the error message that pops up with a failing hard drive.

I didn't drop the mouse on the laptop, just on the ground.

Those two things shouldn't be related. Sounds like merely coincidence that after you dropped your mouse, your laptop is now exhibiting an error with the hard drive. I've never been fortunate enough to have that error be something simple, it's always been right before a hard drive craps out on me.

Okay, I managed to get the disk, but when I try to boot from it to try to repair anything, I get an oemcd001 error.

What disk did you manage to get (I'm assuming windows os, not sure what version)? That's usually an error from older versions of windows like 98. Is it possible the cdrom is sata and you're trying to load an older os?

I have win7 ultimate. And I found my disk. That's why I'm confused. I did so looking and all I see is that error being on windows 98
