disk read error windows 7

I keep getting "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" when attempting to boot up. Is this a fatal hardware failure or can I boot up another way? If so, how do I boot up?

Disk read error generally is suppose to mean bad hard drive. But good news is I have worked on multiple machines where its just a connectivity error aka check your sata/ide cables/power cables on both the motherboard and the hard drive. "you will have to open the machine up to do that so If your comfort level isnt their its a lot easier on a desk top but doable on a laptop as well sata are just the connectors on the hdd if you know this I do apologize I dont know the amount of tech level you have! 😀 but if the connections are fine then you have a couple of other options you can either A: boot to a flash drive with a bootable rescue disk installed on it i like falcon 4s ultimate boot disk and run the hdd tests they have on there or...
