Hello,

I have built this computer 5 months ago, and never had a problem since last month, which is my disk usage hitting 100% randomly for no apparent reason (I can't see any processes hogging my drive) , though I can still move my cursor around and watch task manager and resource manager for about a minute then it becomes completely unresponsive then finally, a BSOD (WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and others sometimes) plus my M.2 Drive isn't detected in my BIOS but a simple turn off and on fixes it (though there are times when it just couldn't boot "select proper boot device").

The first time this ever happened is when I was playing Witcher 3, though I ruled this out as the cause since I Verified my Game Files and they all came out good. This problem also happens randomly, gaming, simple browsing and even just a few minutes on start-up, there are also times when it just doesn't happen at all, even for long periods of usage. I have also ruled out the possibility of a drive overheat because in sustained high loads, the highest it can get is about 40+°C and while gaming its about 30-32°C. I have also checked the drive's health and it turned out good in CrystalDiskInfo.

PC Specs:
CPU: RYZEN 5 3600
GPU: PALIT GTX 1660 SUPER
RAM: 2 x 8GB T-FORCE DARK Z
MOBO: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
SSD: GIGABYTE 512GB GP-GSM2NE8512GNTD
PSU: 750W MSI 80+ GOLD

Solutions I tried:
  • Reconnecting the drive
  • Clearing CMOS
  • Sfc /scannow (all good)
  • DISM/online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • Chkdsk /f /r (all good)
  • Windows Memory Diagnostic (all good)
  • Memtest86 (Passed)
  • Disabled MSISupported
  • Uninstalled (using ddu) and Installed new Nvidia Drivers
  • Installed updates on my Chipset Drivers, Network Adapters and Windows Updates
  • Updated my BIOS
I would really appreciate any help because I will be having classes a few days from now and having this problem would be a real pain. Thanks for reading :).

Reinstall the drive and see, if you can reproduce the original problem.
If not, then all is good.
If still have the same problem, then get a new drive. Choose Samsung this time.
Yes, I am actually going to test the drive tomorrow since its nighttime right now. I will make sure to update you on that. But I'm pretty reluctant since "nothing" really happened to it. I am also considering buying a new one too but I am a bit hesitant as this point. Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it.

Sorry for the late update, it turns out windows was not installed when the drive was returned, had to download windows again. Yesterday I left my PC on overnight while downloading games just to test if it crashes; woke up with it still running fine. Turned it up earlier and ran for about 30 mins while browsing and lo and behold another crash with the same 100% Disk usage and the drive undedected in the BIOS. I am now pretty sure that it isn't a software problem since I did a fresh install of windows and directly got new drivers. I also did not run any games at all prior to the crash. Though I still cannot rule out the possibility of other parts causing the crash. For now, I will run memtest and other windows utility in hopes of finding more info. I would also like to ask if there are other ways to test the Mobo, GPU and CPU. I'm just going to buy a new SATA drive since I really think it is hopeless at this point. But I would still try my chances on contacting GIGABYTE itself about the warranty in the hopes that they can do something. Again, thanks for the help and I will continue to update you on the situation.

UPDATE: I can confidently say that this problem has now been solved. After I decided to buy a new SSD the problem has never since reoccurred, no BSODs, no crashes for the past one month (to make sure that it doesn't reoccur randomly). I think I can definitely say that it was my first SSD that caused the problem. The reason why it did though... I have really no idea. Though, I am thinking that it was caused by the frequent power outages in our province (once or twice a month on average) but I always make sure that my PC is unplugged before the power goes back since that can cause a power surge. Though I cannot definitively say that the power outages basically "broke my SSD" but I think it could be plausible. Other than that, I have literally no idea why my SSD broke. I will now try and contact the seller again to see if they can do something about the broken drive or directly contact GIGABYTE if the seller can't do anything. I would want to once again thank to everybody who replied and helped in my problem. Thanks so much for the suggestions and attention given. I would try to update you guys if my appeal to fix/repair my first drive will be successful.

NOTE: If you are reading this and have a similar problem with the same symptoms. I would recommend that you write your own post as the moderators suggested. It would also be worth a try to do what they suggested to do, in this thread. But my problem might be different from yours, so I still recommend that you write your own post about it. For my case buying a new SSD fixed the problem. I am marking this as the answer to this problem but I couldn't have done this without the help of these people and the community, I once again, Thank you all.
