Disk usage always at 100%. WIN 10. I have tried everything

I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while now and frankly I'm done with Windows 10. This forum is my last hope before i get a mental breakdown.

This is where I'm at now.
I have an HP ProBook 450 G1
It originaly came with windows 8 but i upgraded to 10 when a couple of colleagues reccomended it. When i first got this issue i thought it was a data clutter problem etc. So i defragged my 500GB HDD and did a clean WIN 10 install.
The problem persisted.
Then i thought the problem was the hard drive so i got a new one (i've been meaning to upgrade anywas) and installed WIN 10 with the same licence.
The problem persisted.

I tried pretty much everything this thread suggested

Disabling superfetch, WSearch, windows notifications, configuring my virtual memory, configuring the registry of my driver....

Currently, my disk usage is at 99% -100% with Service Host: Local System(10) at top usage using 0.1 MB/s and is sometimes topped by the "System" process running at 0.1MB/s

The strange thing is that the laptop boots up really fast and logs in with no problem.

Try disabling the Windows Update service. If that makes the disk usage stop, then you either need to reboot a few times so updates can be installed, or the update service is stuck. If the latter, you need to disable Windows Update, delete everything in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, then restart Windows Update. That'll make the computer think no updates have been installed and it'll start checking for updates anew. Do this over a weekend or before you go to sleep, because it can take several hours for Windows to check and download all the updates again.

The other culprit I've found is the update service for Adobe Acrobat. At one customer site, it had gone out of control on one computer and was both pegging disk...

you are not the first perosn reporting excessive hard disk usage

i have read this same report from users with ssds and with hard disk drives

i personally had that problem with a hard disk but my hard disk eventually reported problems under cristaldisk info

my hard disk also made the desktop boot quick but after that, all was slow, i had to replace it with az ssd and that one hasn't failed

a friend has a ssd and he reports the same problem but in his case nothing has helped apart from reinstalling each couple months

as you mention, you have followed the disable functions to search faster, idex server and other popular possible solutions

try to run the cristaldisk info and see if it reports a good or a warning status

In my experience Adobe endows their update service with almost malware-like persistence. I wouldn't be surprised if it reactivates itself somehow.

Does it do the same thing when you boot into safe mode?
(Hold down shift and select restart to restart into safe mode)

Was it a clean install or clone?
I'm assuming clean install

Did the issue persist after the initial install or after you reinstalled other programs?
Be sure about this because an application could be you issue

What protection programs do you have installed? Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, Webroot, McAfee, AVG, etc.

Have you tested your RAM with a Memtest?

Have you tested your HDD with a S.M.A.R.T test?
Just in case the new HDD is bad.

Is the system time right? If not when you fix it does it mess up again?
This can indicate a hardware issue.

Have you checked that your Bios settings are correct?

Are all Windows 10 updates installed? Is there any failed updates?

The fix you previously said you tried did you try again when you installed the new HDD?

I tried the windows update service suggestion and after a couple of reboots last night the disk usage hung at about 15-20% when idle making my laptop usable again. YAY
I didn't have time to run any diagnostics or to check if this is a permanent solution as i am traveling at the moment but i will report back as soon as i can.

I'm confused did you just disable the Windows Update Service thru services.msc and delete everything in SoftwareDistribution folder without enabling back the Windows Update? Then restarted?

Hi! I am a bit confused should I do this?

    ■disable Windows Update Service thru services.msc (disable and stop)

    ■delete everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder -> restart PC

    ■enable Windows Update Service again thru services.msc -> right-click restart -> restart PC

    ■wait for a long time for the update to do its job (over a weekend or before you go to sleep)

Judirek, 100% disk usage can be caused by multiple reasons, maybe Windows Update, maybe something else.

After resetting, it may take hours (depending on connection) for Windows Update to re-download and install any updates it was working on (***IF*** that was even the problem at all). Then again, it may not take that long at all, as there may be no updates at all waiting. So after resetting it, go in and check for updates.

I removed adobe acrobat reader and this stoped my hard disk (100%) problem straight away(after reboot).
I installed one of the free ones e.g. Sumatra pdf reader , sure there are many more out there. Will try a few more pdf readers and see.

Skype 32 on win 10 64.
Tried all the above (Win search/SuperFetch, google, Power options, Skype permission...), nothing...
Just before clean install - KILLED Skype.exe from Task-Mgr voilà :)
Uninstalled it and started working with the store app.
