Hello, I've been having this "problem" but I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work.

every time I open a program, or basically do anything on the computer, the disk usage spikes. The thing is MsMpEng.exe is always on top of disk usage. For example, I am checking for duplicates on some pictures, this is the disk usage on Resource Monitor:

I'm using Windows 10 64 bits. My specs are:
CPU: intel i5 2500
HDD1: WD Caviar Black 500GB.
HDD2: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
RAM: PNY 8GB 1600Mhz

Plugging "MsMpEng.exe" into Google:
MsMpEng.exe is a core process of Windows Defender, which is Microsoft's antispyware utility. It scans downloaded files for spyware; if any suspicious items are found, it can quarantine or remove them. It also takes steps to actively prevent spyware infections by searching the system for known worms and trojan programs.
Perfectly normal operation.

Hi, thanks for your answer. So Windows defender scans every file I access on the computer, every time I open it?
