Whenever I add a new drive to my Windows 2000 server, I have used the
'diskpart' utility to extend the basic disk partition. Unfortunately, this
same utility doesn't work with Windows 2003. Does anyone know of a utility
for 2003 that will extend my partitions if I add new space?

Thanks

Ok, I think I found it. 2003 has its own version of diskpart in the
system32 directory. I haven't tested it, but I hope it works. Any thoughts
anybody?

Yes, I used this utility in win2k3 to expand a san stored volume. Make
sure you run while in safe mode to ensure all file handles are closed.
It should return successful results relatively quickly. I made the
mistake of running in normal mode; disk admin displayed the correct
extended volume space, however Windows Explorer did not recognize the
additional space due to file system corruption. It was necessary to run
the FSEXTEND.EXE util to extend the f/s on the volume out over the
addtional space to correct the problem. If you are performing this
function on AD controller, make sure to run in AD Restore mode.

Good luck,
dom

I have searched for the utility mentioned, fsextend, and could not
find it. I have called microsoft and they don't acknowledge its
existence. I would like to find this as soon as possible.

I have called microsoft Product Support and they have provided me
with the fsextend utility. This resolved my problem.

Hey Les,

You mind giving me a link or emailing it to me since MS doesn't seem to
know what the heck I'm talking about. I tried calling them but they keep
on asking for the KB number in order for them to email it to me.
