There goes maniac mansion three and full throttle two :(

Disney will still whore out the SW ip for video games. We'll probably get some over head gears of war crap or call of the force ancient distant warfare episode 4. What we will not get are remakes or steam licenses of some of lucasarts classics. :(

[citation][nom]echondo[/nom]So....no KotOR 3?Disney and George Lucas can burn in Hell.[/citation]
Knights of the Old Republic was not made by Lucasarts. It was made by Bioware. Then KotOR 2 was made by Obsidian. The old Rebublic(current MMO) was made by Bioware.

The last big game from Lucasarts was The Force Unleashed and Battlefront before that.

Come on people, i remember playing all the old classic xwing/tie fighter games and Dark Forces was awesome: but read the news properly!

They have changed it to a licensing model, so now ANY company can make a star wars game instead of it being locked down. It might mean a lot of titles don't make it which is a shame - but surely this means more freedom for the Star Wars franchise as a whole.

I wish they would at least make a better looking version of rogue squadron (one of my favorite N64 games )

when you license a game, you only get crappy games. You either end up with a low class game studios looking to move from making generic smartphone card game or something else, to making a generic "look mom, my first game" with star wars characters, or star wars logo somewhere in it.

licensing it will simply ruin the brand. Any successful company that licenses parts of their branding out, will only allow it for merchandise and other tiny things, but never their core stuff, for example blizzard would never license their branding for a game to a 3rd party. (where it will in any way , be used for the name of the game)

Imagine if the company that made that walking dead game decided to make a star wars game...

I won't lament the loss of LusacArts yet, I will wait and see, Disney's takeover of Marvel spawned the Avengers series of movies (Cap America, Thor, Iron Man, etc)
...
If they inject the same level of quality into game development that went into the Marvel movies we may actually see something good come from this

This has been a long time coming. The release of 2 or 3 of these games resulted in COD syndrome, sadly with just one one company.

This house cleaning should be good. A lot of other companies could learn from this instead of x recycled games a year we'll get a good game every x years.

I understand the reason why they did this, they really haven't made anything really that great lately. Problem with making Star Wars games is story lines and what's out now and what's maybe sitting on the back burner. Most of this applies to almost all of there games minus there shooter games like Battlefront.

Now do I agree with them just totally shutting it down? No! But the way they see it is that LucasArts at it's current state was a sinking ship and why throw more money into something that's not making any money. It's also possible that they felt that the gaming industry isn't worth investing that kinda money anymore when it could be put to other uses. There were a lot of great games in the past that LucasArts made but that time has long been gone.

Now this isn't the end of games from the Star Wars name cause as it's been stated, most of the games are just going to be licensed out like it has been for awhile.

You know I'm surprised nobody mentioned Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. It was a great flight sim. Anyway don't feel like it's the end of the world. You wanted another Star Wars movie and your getting it. More then likely you would have never gotten it from George Lucas as he's a man that does what he wants to do. Most people didn't care for episodes 1 - 3 so you should be glad and thankful that at least he gave you Star Wars and some really great games.

"We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles."

But F them and get ready for some great titles maid by slave like labor in China and India.

I wonder if the new Star Wars movies will have any Americans in it or working on it. Oh well, shut up and eat you fat and sugar while big business destroys the country.

We all feel a great disturbance in the Force as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced

This is actually a good thing because they haven't churned out much in years. Sure SWTOR is OK if you like MM. But come on, bring me a modern Xwing vs Tie fighter or Xwing alliance with huge space battles including starships and star destroyers. Hellz Yea. I hope another studio offers to develope and license it.

Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, Full Throttle... those are the games that made me a Gamer. Back when we Gamers were just a bunch of weirdos sitting behind a x286 with an amber monochrome CRT and a bunch of 5 1/4 floppy disks. If it was from LucasArts, you knew it was going to be a blast... you knew you were heading to gaming heaven, where time stopped, pizza boxes and chip bags were piling up and friends tagged along and helped sitting besides you trying to solve the puzzles. Farewell, Guybrush. So long Ben. Au revoir, Manny. See you on the other side. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNiyoaPr28U
