Hi all,
I've got a question regarding my machine's odd behaviour.
Everytime I start my computer or restart, I get a black screen while the computer is still running (HD light flashing...looks like its booting up n loading the OS).
I then have to reset my comp about 7-10 times until I get a bleep then the display appears again on my tft, can someone tell me whats going on?
Sometimes my computer will switch itself off completely when I'm in the middle of a game (ie. Unreal II and Splinter Cell). Does it have to do with the fact that my M/b Giga's 8INXP doesn't like my Rad9700Pro?
PSU not big enuf?
Any suggestion would be great thank you!!
I have my AGP set at x4.
using Ati's catalyst 3.4

My comp specs:
P4 2.53 (533Mhz NW), Stock Fan

cpu temp idle 36
cpu temp playing games 58

Gigabyte 8INXP
1.0Gb Crosair XMS DDR2700 (2strip of 512Mb)
2x 80Gb Maxtor HD 8Mb Cache in Raid 1 mode
Gigabyte Maya II Radeon 9700 Pro
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Ex
Thermaltake Xaser III V2000A

Radeon 9700's with certain configs, will not display anything till your windows starts up. Have you tried waiting a while before rebooting?

Also, the random rebooting could be a HEAT issue, as my computer will restart itself if it gets above 65degrees celsius.

What brand of power supply is that? 400 watts should be plenty but if it was a cheapo generic it could be a voltage stability thing.

Its was quite a cheap PSU only 20pounds. Its made by Q Tech ,dual fan n gold plated.
Could it be the 9700Pro isn't gettin' enuf juice?
What would be the best settings (drivers) for an 8INXP m/b and a Radeon 9700Pro combination?

58 sounds a little warm for the CPU, but not so much that it would cause stability problems (IMHO).

I don't know anything about Q Tech, so I'm hesitant to tell you to go out and get a new power supply. I know that cheap power supplies can have problems with voltage stability that will cause headaches similar to yours. It's not that the graphics card (or any number of parts) isn't getting enough juice, just not a stable supply. Hopefully someone else will chime in who has experience with (or knowledge about) Q Tech.

Good luck!
