Display brightness issue

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue on my Rog Strix G16 laptop where after turning off and turning back on the device the brightness will be set always at the ‘silent’ mode, even if I last had it on performance mode. The interesting thing though is the brightness slider will show it set at whatever mode I had the laptop last on.

For example, I had the laptop on turbo mode which was max brightness. I turn off the laptop and turn it back on and the display brightness is very dim, (silent mode), but if I look at the brightness slider it’s at 100% max as the turbo mode would normally be. I change the slider and the brightness is then fine, or I change plans and that works too.

Any ideas? It’s practically brand new and I have already reset it once.

Interesting thing I’ve found after troubleshooting is that this does NOT happen after disabling fast startup or when I restart the laptop. E.g. laptop was in turbo mode, restart laptop and laptop is in turbo mode with brightness slider at full and brightness display is at max brightness.

Anyone else having this problem? Shall I either disabled fast startup or just continue to change plans using buttons on keyboard until the brightness works properly? Cheers!

This laptop?

I took a quick look at the display settings, etc..

Could not, of course see all of windows and menus.

However, take a look at the laptop's windows being sure to scroll up/down etc. to ensure that some "save" setting is not being overlooked.

Some button = "Save", "Ok", or "Yes" for example.

Or some "fine print" that indicates some conflict between fast startup and buttons.

Also Page 41 provides additional information about controlling brightness via the Fn keys.

Might be that what happens is related to use of Fn keys while gaming.

That's the one, yep. Thank you!

I've looked online and I've seen another user having the exact same problem as me and the manufacturer has tested their end apparently and there's no conflict, so must be Windows. Is disabling start up a bad thing? It resolves the issue and only takes like 0.3 seconds longer to load on my Nvme SSD. Cheers for your help.

Disabling "fast startup".....

Hibernation vs. full shutdown.

Reference:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/t...loyment/updates-not-install-with-fast-startup

I am not aware of any specific problems.

If adding 0.3 seconds to load solves an annoying configuration issue then I would disable fast startup.

And simply keep an eye on things should some other side effect reveal itself.
Thank you so much for your help, really appreciate it. It’s just an annoying config error rather than a hardware error if others are having the same issue? Not sure if I need to send it in for repairs? Thanks.

If only annoying then just "wait it out".

Consider that there may be some update, somewhere, sometime that will quietly resolve the issue for all.

Sending the laptop in for repairs may be counter productive....

Cynicism conceded. :)
