So what happens is ill be playing a game, having a youtube video in the background usually makes it happen more often. When suddenly its like I dropped to 1 fps, my audio will start clipping out like it'll play for a second or 2 then silence for 5 or 10 seconds. Its not just the game, its the entire computer that is suddenly lagging like this. my mouse curser will not move then suddenly it does after 3-4 seconds then instantly back to not moving.

So I eventually manage to cntl alt del, and try to see whats happening in there. Memory seems fine its not maxed out or anything. My CPU however seems to be jumping up and down to 100%, the problem is it won't list the program that's doing it.......its almost as if whatever is doing it is somehow hidden. I clicked "show all users" and its still not listing anything that's spiking that high. I click on "cpu" to list it by most cpu usage there are programs using cpu but non over 5-10%.

Moving on, when this happens sometimes the entire game will crash, when this happens it will tell me the display driver crashed and recovered.

"The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."

that is basically the only thing showing up in event viewer that looks to be of importance which again just points to the display driver crashing which I already knew.

So I tried running memory tests for a little bit, I just ran a quick 1 pass and it said it was good.

Did a system file check/repair didn't fix my problem

tried updating NVidia drivers didn't help
tried using older drivers didn't help
tried using a nivida driver cleaner didn't help
Reset bios didn't help
Downclocked my memory from 1600 to 1333 or something and didn't help
downclocked my cpu from 3900mhz to 3500 didn't help, think I even took it down to 3000

ran all kinda of different antivirus stuff, malware, ect didn't help. I considered doing one from dos but havn't got around to it yet felt a little pointless since....

I reinstalled windows didn't help

infact it almost seems like it made things worse because now for some silly reason there are certain installers I can't open. Like my motherboard came with a bunch of asus tools n stuff, I click the exe, it asks for permission to open, but then nothing happens........the exe shows up in the cntrl-alt-del listing but it never really opens.......I have another app for my GPU from gigabyte (770 gtx windforce) it has a gpu guru app thingy, same dam thing I can't install it..........and this is a fresh install it doesn't make any sense........I did get the chipset to install however, I dunno but this just seems really weird

my hard drive is a Samsung pro ssd
cpu is a 4770k
motherboard is asus maxum hero vi
powersupply = corsair 850w
ram = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224

So long story short this isn't a simple problem, ive ran through the usual shit and ive gotten nowhere with it

Just curious, why are you running triple channel memory on a dual channel setup? Try removing your unmatched stick and report back.

Another thing to try would be to remove your GPU and use the onboard video, at least in an attempt to isolate the issue.

Speaking of GPU, how are your temperatures? Have you attempted to downclock your GPU's memory frequency, and/or GPU frequency?

cpu temps are fine the cpu is water cooled its like 33-35 at idle then around 45-55 at load

as for the memory, im using 3 sticks because id only have 4 gb if I didn't. Pairing the memory up just makes it run faster, so 1 side has 2 sticks the other has 1 but in all my years of computer use ive never heard about that being an issue?? ive seen countless computers with only 1 stick on the second side

Computers, as you are currently learning, can be irrational, picky bitches. Sometimes it takes being slightly illogical to solve problems. Yes in theory one, three, five and other odd numbers of ram in a dual channel setup "should" work fine, it doesn't mean they DO work fine in all cases. By all means approach diagnosis in whichever direction you feel most logical, but for some reason, this is hitting me with a red flag.

The GPU driver crashes are another red flag. I would eliminate that from the equation, at least temporarily to attempt to isolate the issue.

welp turns out it was my corsair power supply, it was supposed to have been a nice one, spent extra to have more breathing room / better efficiency. I previously had tested the 3,6,12 volt lines and they were fine, but turns out the issue was on the green poweron wire. So turns out all those claims that corsairs are top notch don't fall in line with my personal experience with them. Then to boot their customer service is horrible, i have threads like these proving that the issues started happening a long time ago, but they are playing the out of warrenty card on me. Kind of a slap in the face to go through all this trouble, finally figuer it out, then be told oops sorry too late. A quality company would stand behind their products in situations like this. But whatever guess they are no better than evga now in my experience. Incase your wondering about evga, they are the glorious people who give u lifetime warrentys on motherboards then when you actually use it just repeatedly send you bad boards till u give up each one comes with its own special error code how neat :) . Guess ill have to switch to seasonic or thermaltake now.
