[SOLVED] Display driver igfx stopped respond and has successfully recovered

For the past few days I've been experiencing disconnecting and reconnecting by displayport from my external monitor. It almost looks like as if I unplugged the displayport cable from my laptop and plugged it back in. However, sometimes it shows up in Event Viewer as event ID 4101: Display driver igfx stopped respond and has successfully recovered, or not at all. When this happens, Discord detects that I have a "new audio output" (probably my laptop's Intel audio), but I haven't done anything to my cable where it could've been damaged.

Also, the graphics driver doesn't "crash". I was playing a game yesterday, and it didn't crash, only the screen turned black, turned back on, and I saw the displayport logo on my monitor (like when you switch monitor sources). The game resumed normally.

Like I said before, sometimes this gets logged in Event Viewer, sometimes I race to the logs and I find nothing there. I tried looking at the time the Intel graphics stopped working, but found nothing that could've affected igfx. The only logs I saw at the time was a new logon and my laptop's touchpad started up again.

So far, I've done the following:
  • sfc /scannow
  • DISM RestoreHealth
  • Updated Nvidia graphics
  • Made sure battery was on performance, no hybrid sleep mode, 100% CPU, etc.
  • Updated Intel graphics through device manager, then found a newer generic one online, and installed it. (I have rolled back to the device manager one since).
  • Disabled thermal throttling with Throttlestop (I did this more than a year ago)
Here's my specs:
Windows 10
i7-8750H
GTX 1060 6GB mobile
16 GB RAM
Acer Xb241h, 1080p 144hz gsync display (external monitor) with displayport 1.3

This happens about twice per day, and can be while I'm doing anything. It happened when I was playing a game (which utilized Nvidia gfx), but didn't crash the game. Maybe I'm not looking deep enough into logs? How would I go about fixing this, even after rolling back / updating GFX drivers?

Solution
igfx is the Intel graphics. Check temperature of your CPU while under load

use the Intel update utility to install the latest chipset, management and graphics driver

enable thermal throttle and check if it happens again

run userbenchmark.com and post the http link of your result, e.g. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28977730

clean boot
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool

use ddu uninstaller to delete the Intel GPU driver and reinstall the latest graphics driver again

Also, does DDU uninstall the Intel chipset drivers? Would I be better off uninstalling through control panel then?

like said, only the Intel GPU drivers will be removed and its previous versions. The normal control panel uninstaller won´t do that and this might be the problem here to fully reset the settings and driver of the iGFX.

The chipset drivers will be left untouched by the tool.

I'm hoping I fixed it, but I haven't been getting any weird disconnections since. I used DDU to uninstall the latest Intel GFX driver, and then installed the 2018 driver from my laptop manufacturer's site. I guess if I don't get any errors I'll keep it that way.
