I'm trying to help an elderly friend who changed the font size under
"settings" to something that is too large. I've tried to make it smaller, but
I cannot even see the choice windows on the "settings" page because the font
is so big. Is there are other way to reduce the font size? Thanks

There is no way to change the font size on the Settings page.

If you meant to say "Under Appearance", then try this

Right-click a blank spot on the Desktop
Choose Properties
Choose Appearance

Press the TAB key 3 times to establish
focus on the Item scroll box,
which will be set to Desktop

Press the DOWN arrow key
to change the setting of the Item scroll box
from Desktop to Icon

Press the Down arrow key 10 times
to reduce the Icon size by 10 pixels

Press Enter to apply the change

Repeat as necessary until you have a manageable system again.

Boot to safe mode and make the change there - press and hold Ctrl before
Windows boots and choose safe mode from the menu.
