I recently got a new second montior. Foolish me thought I had multiple HDMI ports to it wouldnt be a problem but it turns out I only have one HDMI port and the other 3 are all Display ports. Returning the second monitor wasnt an option so I looked around and eventually found this DisplayPort to HDMI adapter;
https://www.harveynorman.ie/tvs-hea...tv-cables/ednet-dp-adapter-cable-dp-hdmi.html
which I thought would do the job but I just brought it home and hooked everything up and the second monitor is still black. Did I get the wrong part? I saw another suggesting that I have to get something like this;
https://www.amazon.com/gofanco-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-Power/dp/B01BXMOREI
Is this true or is there something else I can do?

EDIT: as an extra bit of info, as I was typing out this post the second monitor flashed to life for a hot second and looked to be mirroring this page so now Im really confused

EDIT 2: Ok I have managed to get the second monitor working but now there are flashing red lines and dots on that monitor(not on this page though for some reason, maybe cause it doesnt show up on white screens?)

Final Edit: Problem solved(kind of) I switched around the HDMI cables so that the one that was going into the HDMI port is now going into the DisplayPort adapter and the new HDMI cable from the new moniter is going into the HDMI port and everything is working. However now my original screen display looks too sharp or bright or far away, its hard to describe but Ill figure it out.

What is the brand and model of your video card and second monitor?

I am leaning towards the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter as being the problem. I have witnessed the flashing red lines/dots being caused by a faulty adapter. Also, the adapter you linked from Amazon is an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter which is not applicable in your setup. It is not bidirectional.

You may need to find another DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. If you answer my initial question, I can provide you with a few options.

What is the brand and model of your video card and second monitor?

My GPU is an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080, the second monitor is a Samsung - LC32F39MFUUXEN

Good to know that the amazon linked product was not worth going after, what about the one that I linked from Harvey Norman?
