Question DisplayPort to VGA cable.................Working But Yet................Not Working...........

hi,

i just connected a (Vention brand) DisplayPort to VGA cable from my desktop's motherboard (no graphics card) to the monitor ............the HDMI cable from desktop to the monitor is still connected............i then selected monitor's input to VGA..............the wallpaper is on the screen but all the desktop icons are gone.............even the mouse cursor is gone !

could it be a loose connection on the DisplayPort to VGA cable ?

re-start the computer ?

should i remove the HDMI cable .................and leave just the DisplayPort to VGA cable connected ?

Possibly the system is seeing the two monitors as Extended.

All the desktop stuff still lives on the original monitor, and the second one has nothing yet.
But you're only seeing the second one.

Try moving the mouse far to the left and/or right.
The cursor may appear.

i forgot to state that i'm using only 1 monitor..............so i switched to VGA input on the monitor and all the desktop icons disappeared...........no cursor too........

perhaps i should disconnect the HDMI cable from the desktop ?

Yes.
Reduce it to one monitor and cable, either one.
Then try the other one.

See what happens.

If you connect one monitor with two separate cables Windows sees that as two monitors. Do as USAFRet said.
