My motherboard supports chassis intrusion detection. I seem to have a nice mounting spot for a switch on my case, but it didn't come with such a switch. Salvaged from old electronics I have a push-to-make switch that I can install on my case and connect to the jumper on the motherboard. I have tested the switch with a LED and I have confirmed that it works. By my understanding of electronics (which isn't very good or anything) it seems logical to me that a PTM switch is needed here.

If I install the switch and connect it to my motherboard, will it just work like that? Is there anything I need to know? Does the polarity matter?

Also, yes, I do need chassis intrusion detection. I don't have a mounting spot for a lock, and as everyone knows, locks stop worries - not thieves.

Solution
If it needs a cap on the connectors to work normally, than you need a normally OPEN switch, if it doesn't than normally CLOSED switch. Ordinary push button switches are not reliable, use a micro switch instead.
