Try installing and playing that using 95/98 Compatibility mode.

To install a program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode, hold
down SHIFT as you insert the game CD, use My Computer to browse
to the setup program, and then skip down to step 1 in the list below:

To run an installed program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode,
first right click the program and "Send To..." / Desktop (create shortcut).

1.. Right click on the shortcut to the program.
2.. Click on Properties.
3.. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4.. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000
5.. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is best:
a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok.Double click on the program.

Of course, let's not forget to check for any patches or updates for that game.
A good place to find them is: www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

If you'd like to learn more information about compatibility mode, you can click the
link in the Compatibility tab that reads "Learn more about program compatibility",
or watch this Application Compatibility Power Point Presentation:

Hello Jimmy S,
I might have known you would come to my rescue, I have tried everything you
suggested and in every combination, but without success. The dialogue box
still comes up saying my sound card is not connected, or it is disabled. Nor
can I find any patches or updates, not even the programmes website, only the
distributor. I read the Power Point presentaton, but I must confess I didn't
undestand most of it.Perhaps I should just bin it!!
Thanks again. Peter Bowers

Hi Peter,

Since the problem persists, let's try the patch for this issue
which I was fortunate to find after searching for awhile:
http://www.learnatglobal.com/SPupdate.exe

Download the patch by clicking the blue box above.
In the window that appears Click the Save button
Save the patch to your desktop.
Double click the SP patch icon and follow the directions for installation.
The patch should automatically save in the correct folder:
C:\Windows\Sytems 32
If this folder is not listed in the blue box, use browse box to find C:\Windows\System 32
Click on the "Finish" button and follow the directions..

NOTE: This patch must be installed in the System 32 Folder of your operating system. If after installation the patch does not work,
please reinstall following the same steps listed above.

hello again Jimmy S,
Many many thanks, the programme is working fine now I am sure my grandson
will get a lot of fun and education from it. The only problem is that I
can't get on line through the programme to register it, when I attempt to, a
dialogue box tells me that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close, this happens every time I try, perhaps they have closed this
link now!
apart from that it all seems to be working well. Many thanks again, your
expertise knows no bounds. You wouldn't have any lottery Nos. for this week,
would you!!! Kind regards Peter Bowers
