Hi,

I have a Netgear wireless N150, since it is not able to send signals at the other floor so I needed a repeater.

I got this Dlink Router DIR505 which has three options of Router, Repeater and Hotspot.

I want to have MAC Address protection. When I use the repeater function of DIR505, I am unable to keep the signals MAC Protected. It is very easy to get password while using Windows 7. So I had to migrate to the other function of Hotspot.

The problem with hotspot is that 2 networks are created one of Netgear Router and other of DIR505 and even if I give the hotpot network (DIR505) the SSID same name as that of the main Network(Netgear) I am not able to access the Netgear networks computers and directories which are otherwise open. The internet is getting connected on both the router and hotspot, but I need to have an inter network access to the computers.

The last Router function requires both networks to get connect by a LAN which is not possible in my case.

Is there any solution to the problem?

Thanks in advance,
GC

If your connecting another router to your network to extend the range of your network then follow these and you should have more success or more chance of success.

Disable UPnP™
• Disable DHCP
• Disable WAN dependent features: Virtual Server, Application and Port Forward Rules, Access Control and Web Filters, SPI and Firewall, WISH and WPS.
• Change the LAN IP address to an available address on your network. The LAN ports on the router cannot accept a DHCP address from your other router. Recommend using 192.168.0.50-.59 for the IP address for the AP or something that is not used from your DHCP.

This will allow you to all computers that are connected on both routers will be able to access your entire network and the Internet without a problem. Thats what I've done multiple times at home and at some businesses and it works perfectly.
