Hi all

For some reason, activating frame generation introduces extreme input lag, framerate fluctuations, low GPU usage and generally worse performance than without.
Below is a short video showing it in Cyberpunk 2077. The problem is the same in Warhammer 40k Darktide.

I am on the newest Nvidia drivers and did a clean install of those. My full specs are as follows:

Operating system:
Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, Version 10.0.26100

Driver:
Game Ready Driver - 566.14 - Tue Nov 12, 2024

CPU:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K

RAM:
64.0 GB DDR5

Mainboard:
GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS MASTER X
Bios version F7e

Graphics card
GPU processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
Resizable bar: Yes
Bus: PCI Express x16 Gen4

Any help would be much appreciated.

activating frame generation introduces extreme input lag
It is 100% normal for FG to introduce input lag because the generated frames don't take user input, only the real ones do. The issue is unfortunately exacerbated when playing with low framerates (like in your video).

low GPU usage
I also noticed that on my PC. I attribute it to the fact that the hardware that generates the frames might be keeping the rest of the gpu back but that is just speculation on my part.

generally worse performance than without
Your performance in pure fps numbers is better. For why it may feel worse, refer to the first point.

As for what you can do, I would suggest lowering settings to achieve at least 60fps before turning FG on, to avoid the horrible input lag.

WHat I don't understand though is why other people with pretty much exactly the same setup achieve higher framerates and generally smoother gameplay.

It is difficult to convey through a video but using FG makes the game unplayable due to the sluggish lag
