Hi,

I intend to move our Windows 2000 multi-zones master DNS server named
dns1.domain.com to another server named dns2.domain.com
but will keep the same IP.

Name need to be changed and dns1.domain.com will no longer be used. In this
way if something goes wrong at migration time I can just plug it back till
the problem is fixed. I do not want to unregister dns1 server from AD for
next couple of weeks.

I intend to follow http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=280061 which seems to
work fine.

However all records in existing zone records and in slave servers are using
dns1.domain.com pointing to that IP and not dns2.domain.com.

At migration time with MS procedure I will have the IP but the name server records for this DNS will be for dns1 and not for dns2.

Is this ok for this slave servers and Active Directory? Isn't enought to use
the same IP of dns1? Do I need to perform also a search and replace in all
zone records?

Can you provide more details?

Thank you,

Chris P.

Just go into the zone properties and change the nameserver name under the
nameserver tab. Youy won't need to do a search and replace, since all it is
is just one entry to change the name on.
