Do 4 Pin Fans Work On NZXT H440 Fan Hub?

So I want to upgrade my case fans to Noctua NF-S12A fans, but they are 4 pin and my included fan hub only has 3 pin headers, will they still work like the stock fans, running faster when hot and slower when idle, or do I need to buy some sort of adapter? Is there an adaptor?

Thanks in advance.

Solution

I'm trying to remember how the H440 's hub was designed. It's been awhile since I built with it. The fans that came with the case are all 3-pin right? If so, the 4-pin PWM fans will work the same way if only connected 3-pin (DC). If the factory fans were controllable, the Noctua fans will be the same.

But does the hub's fan headers have room for the wider 4-pin fan connectors side-by-side? Seems I remember the headers being quite close together.

3-pin fans are simply +12v DC fans with a 3rd wire for tach feedback. The PWM 4-pin fans add a 4th wire for motors that have Pulse Width...

3-pin fans are simply +12v DC fans with a 3rd wire for tach feedback. The PWM 4-pin fans add a 4th wire for motors that have Pulse Width Modulation capability to control speed by pulsing the voltage instead of raising/lowering it. That's why LED fans can maintain full brilliance even as the fan RPM changes, unlike 3-wire fans that dim as the RPM lowers.

Solution

Well I can just plug them in every other port or so, thanks for the reply.
